Default BJ Budget Crisis?

So what's going on in the state of NJ with the budget? Seems like the state politicans are playing a power struggle with the economic lives of the working class?

Well, if nothing else it will cut down on the traffic going into Trenton.

Seriously, it's an outrage. I hope Corzine knows what he is doing. If nothing else, it will become very clear exactly what jobs are essential and what jobs are non-essential if they keep everyone at home.

Some of my coworkers are really upset - they have spouses that work for the state and they will not get paid for the days they are not allowed to work. This will cause a major financial hardship on those families.

I live in MA, but have talked to a few NJ folks who don't seem very happy with the economic status of NJ. Seems NJ has the highest property taxes, yet is several billion in debt. It seems as if the NJ governor is trying to fix things but being blocked by a democratic house. I don't know, seems like somethings got to give. Can anyone really eloborate?

I don't want to get into a political discussion, so I'll just quote a paragraph from Yahoo News:

"The dispute centers on Corzine's plan to increase the state sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent to help overcome a $4.5 billion budget deficit and avert future state budget woes. The plan is opposed by Corzine's fellow Democrats in the Assembly."

The problem does not ultimately lie with Corzine. It belongs squarely on the shoulders of McGreevey - or McCreepy as I call him - and every other individual who asked the voters to send them to Trenton, and then proceeded to line their pockets, and the pockets of their cronies from the pockets of the tax payers.

There is a history of malfeasance in this state and it dug a $4+ Billion dollar hole. I voted for Corzine because he doesn't depend on anyone to build up his bank account. He worked his way up from a working class beginning to Chairman & CEO of Goldman Sachs. He understands money, and it usually takes tough decisions to get out of financial trouble. That's why he was elected. He seemed to be the man for the job.

As far as McGreevey goes, he eventually wanted to portray himself as a "gay American" and the media refers to him as "openly gay." Well, nobody around here cares if he's gay or not, but he was not open about it until the stuff hit the fan.

We all knew (down where I live in S. Jersey) that he was traveling down to Cape May to carry on his "affairs." Tough to keep a secret down here. He broke his leg on one occasion, and they helicoptered his wife down here so it would look like it happened on a family vacation to the press. (And for her to be portrayed as someone who had no clue is ridiculous. No one is that clueless.)

The problem with McGreevey is that he lied, extorted, and cared more about personal gain than the welfare of the voters. He is the latest in a very long line of Governors who plowed through and mismanaged the states coffers, but he especially mismanaged his government position.

The elected officials can't handle a budget, so who has to pay...again? The taxpayers. I don't blame Corzine for playing hardball. It's about time somebody around here did.

Thanks for reading that. Can you tell how steamed I get over this?

Adream has it right--though I want to emphasize that the corruption in NJ goes WAY beyond McGreevy.

this budget problem is no different than it has been in years past.they simply spent too much on unnecessary items, waste 1/3 of what they take in and pad the pockets of the party faithful.
although MCsleezy used the "i am a gay american "to deflect the fact he was under investigation on MANY federal levels and his cabinet was one of the most corrupt and wasteful, don't expect any thing else from corzine.
sucessful business genius?hardly he made $$off commissions of stocks in 401k's, floated school bonds and municiples ..for a 10% coomission, that is tax money straight down the drain and all his big talk was no more than north jersey/south jersy power struugle for where the money goes.straight to the unions beniefits.1/3 of all the $$$ taken in by nj goes to worker benefits.5 BILLION this year.
corzine wa son a skiing trip when he got wind of GOLDMAN SACHS plan to fire him so he qiut to persue other interests, mainly buying a job as senator,to buy a job as governor to use to get a shot at president.
btw notice even his wife said"he cant be trusted".and not one of his kids showed up when he won? why.if his family wont even FAKE SUPPORT him,nor will i
