Fence - CHEAP - in Bergen?
Anyone know of a decent fencing co in Bergen County? I have to fence my lil' yard and I don't want to spend a fortune OR get ripped off.
6 yrs ago when we moved in DH paid $600 for materials to a contractor who was related to a friend of ours and he disappeared and was never heard from again...
Is do it yourself REALLY hard for a fence?

The hardest part is digging the holes- especially up in Bergen where you're likely to hit clay, rocks, etc. Once you get the holes dug, the next challlenge is getting all the posts set plumb and in line with each other. After that, it's smooth sailing.

I just had some work done recently. I had 3 companies give me estimates. Two were quite high and they were trying to talk me into doing things I didn't really need. The 3rd estimate was reasonable and the guy did a pretty good job. Now here's the hard part. He only wanted to take cash and I am not positive of the company name. I'm sure he was local to my area, so the only match I'm finding is M&M Fence Company in Parsippany. Not sure if they will travel to your area or not. If you want to try, you can PM me for their number if you can't find it. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but I'm about 90% sure this is the company I used. Have you been away? I haven't seen you posting in the forums recently. Good to have you back.

I'll let you know as I am in the process of contemplating taking on that task. I've been researching and fence contractors are extremely expensive! Typically twice the cost of the materials. I have about 230-feet to install and I was getting verbal quotes of over 10K!!! I found a great website for purchasing the fence materials. Very reasonable and they include EVERYTHING! All the others... the panel = x dollars, the post = x dollars, the hardware = x dollars! Even Home Cheapo and Lowes could not beat the prices I found on this website. I'll go find the link and post it. Like Bob said, it seems that the post holes and setting of the posts so that they are in line as well as plume and most importantly, spaced correctly will be the biggest challenge.!

The cheapest guys for me were Jan Fence from Wayne, but this was almost 2 years ago. I would expect prices to be cheaper now actually. Either way they all want something like 4000 to do about 275(?) feet worth of fence.

Just find some Mexicans off the street. Drive bye Home Depot and pickup 3-4 Mexicans and have them do it.
Even if you hire a contractor Mexicans will be doing the work--you are just bypassing the Italian Middleman.

Im in the process of doing mine myself right now. Its pretty easy, just some labor, my dad did ours at another property as well. As long as you aren't physically incapable, go for it, or maybe when Im done with mine I can give you a quote, I can always use some extra cash.
