Exclamation Problems in Barnegat Neighborhoods?

My fiance and I are looking to get a house in Ocean County. We happened to drive through a nice neighborhood in Barnegat last night.

Come to find out that this neighborhood is called Settlers Landing, and has had some problems. A couple people at my office had sad that it's a bad part. It really didn't look that way to our eyes though.

I've also heard that Schooner Ave is the dividing line between the good part, and the bad part.

Any other info/advice?

Thanks in advance,
~Kyle

I've lived in Barnegat 35 years, though never in Settlers Landing. Settlers Landing is the worst part of Barnegat. Unfortunately, a lot of decent folks who keep immaculate homes and property are stuck there (unable to sell their homes) because of those who have destroyed the neighborhood. Barnegat is a good town with a lot of nice developments, both new and well established, and I would advise you to look elsewhere in Barnegat. Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the reply! I was afraid that this was the case. We drove through last weekend and were surprised to see how run down Lexington Blvd is. It's a shame that 1 or 2 streets can ruin the reputation of an entire town.

We're still looking in Barnegat, just not in Settlers Landing.

Thanks again!

I dont think that settlers is the worse part of Barnegat. I think it is Lexington. I have been here for over 23 years and the areas seem to change. I think they are having more trouble by Pebble Beach.
There was also a time when the windward section was getting run down. Overall, I think the school district is a good one. Eventhough the kids are from different sections, they all play together - from settlers, rosehill timbers, windward,or georgetown section. It doesn't matter to the kids.

What kind of trouble are they having in Pebble Beach? I live there and have not heard or witnessed any trouble.
