Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood, although they are far South down by Cape May, they do not have any beach badges there and have nice sandy beaches.
That's kind of a long day trip and better if you're going to stay a few days, a week or even overnight.
Also they have a long boardwalk that is legendary.

There are many more beaches further North that vary in atmosphere, etc.

Basically the ocean beaches in NJ start from Sandy Hook, which is a National Park and go all the way down to Cape May.
Seaside in the Northern part has a boardwalk with a slightly different atmosphere.
Spring Lake, along with a lot of other beach towns are nice, relatives of mine tend to go there often each summer.

Some towns are geared more towards partying youth, even though they try to tone that down, others are quieter family type resorts.

What is a "badge"? Is it a badge per person, or per household? In a household of 4 people, do they charge me about $32.00 for the "badges" in order to go to the beach?
If you don't want to spring for $32.00 plus parking I recommend Island Beach State Park $10 for the car on weekends and holidays, $6 weekdays. It is one price for everyone in the car and it includes parking. It is a very pretty beach and a family crowd.

It's Exit 82 off the Parkway. Follow Signs to Seaside Park. Be aware once the parking lots are full they close the park so no one else can get in...get there early on weekends

Parking isn't really an issue except in the really crowded towns with boardwalks (Seaside, Pt Pleasant, etc). For example, you could park on the street a block or two off the beach in spring lake on most days and not pay a dime.
