Many immigrants or Northeast residents don't know but a lot of New jerseyans originate from the south or consider to have more in common with southern culture than northern. Just go around Fort Dix and Cumberland and ask people where they're from, many will say Delaware or Virginia etc.

the confederates were right. people like to make it all about slavery because nothing in the world could possibly be more important. it was about states rights and an oppressive federal government. abe lincoln is absolutely the worst president america has ever had. people like to talk about america needing to use more diplomacy (particularly with respect to our current situation in iraq). well, if there is ever a situations that requires diplomacy it is before you murder hundreds of thousands of your own people.
anyway, to the original poster, do you walk around with special muslim gear? hijab, burkha, or anything of that nature?

Imagine my heartbreak. A goofy little juvenile punk called me some unintelligible fantasy-world name, and I am SO hurt.

I have never lived in the South because I have never had a desire to do so. My ancestors made a decision years ago to get the hell out of that region, and I have seen no reason to doubt their instincts.
