Hey y'all:

After some premature predictions, it looks like I am finally set to head north.

Sadly, Cindy, my greyhound, passed away recently... however this has opened up some living options that had been a bit restricted previously. The way things now look, I am expecting to split my time (for a while anyway... until things get a bit firmer) between Durham, NC and NJ/NYC.

This all said, I have a lead on some very interesting temporary housing in Jersey City that looks to be very convenient to my office in NYC. Price isn't really cheap (least I don't think it is) but is reasonable seeming for what I will be getting for a short and open duration, and should be the ideal platform from which to look for something more permanent-ish.

In any case, I am looking for a thumbnail read on Jersey City (yes... I know that there have been many threads... I have been reading them), but particularly am interested in any insights in regards to the area in which my proposed lodging is located.

Particularly:302 Pavonia Avenue Jersey City, NJ 07302

This address via Yahoo Maps: Yahoo! Maps, Driving Directions, and Traffic

I don't mind the interesting, adventurous and exotic, but still would like to have an idea of what I am dealing with. I do plan to visit the area shortly (in the next week or 3) but still would really apreciate any thoughts on the matter.

That's in Hamilton Park - a very nice area of JC. Lots of brownstones. You will be fine there.

It's a great area. My sister just bought a place on Pavonia, but on the other side of Hamilton Park. I've always lived near Van Vorst Park, but I can tell you that there are a lot of news helicopters hovering over that neighborhood early in the morning. I can even hear them over in V V P.

Default Very useful....

Thanks for the info. I expect to be up there next week or so..... check things out up close and personal, then ... if it looks any good... I'll take the room.

Next thing is going to be parking. My plan is to buy some old junky cracker box for use when I am up there... get a lockup or see what is available. I'd love a nice new set of wheels, but this seems to be a better way to start.

Any hints on auto-lockups, people willing to let a parking space, garages, etc would me most apreciated.

Here's to my grand return to the Garden State!

Good info. What time are they usually there? Every day? Thanks.

area is ok, but that particular location is not very close to the path train. Also street parking is a problem.

Usually between 6 and 8 am, checking out Holland Tunnel traffic.. It's quite inconsiderate.

Parking is not any worse than any other neighborhood of JC. It's a city...parking sucks all around. If you need to have a car, you get used to the parking.
