Waiting on the last stages of a deal for a used car (1997); its inspection will expire by the end of the month, and there is some tinting on the front windows.
Any recommendations for auto inspection? I'm in New Brunswick area, but would rather drive somewhere than take the tints off. Send me a PM.. appreciated.
Finding an inspection station that passes the car knowingly with tints on them is very rare as now if they get caught it costs them up to $10,000 in fines. It is also diffucult to pass as well if the inspector is "in on it" because almost all inspection stations (public and private) are now videotaped. I would say take them off and then reapply if desired or try to get it inspected with the windows down but that could end up costing you money if you fail.
Will it be possible to get passed with tint if accompanied by a doctor/optometrist note saying it's recommended, as per the exception noted on the tint laws?
Yes but you have to get a doctor that states that this is necessary and not recommended. What you would need is this to be written on a prescription form.
I have been told that a prescription works. You just have to make sure it looks legit and they do not suspect something because if they do I am sure they can reject the inspection. What I would do if I were you is call a state inspection center to be sure beforehand and that way it will not possibly result in you going there and possibly wasting your time in line.
If you get stopped you show the prescription or a nice set of FOP/PBA cards.
