picatinny job, how is the traffic on I-80 E ?
Hey everyone,
I am looking at taking a job at Picatinny, but would really like to know how the traffic is on I-80 from Pa to NJ. I will be living in Pa just outside NJ. Does I-80 East bound get backed up in the A.M or P.M ??? Looks like I would be driving from PA into NJ and getting offaround exit 34
Thank you for any help and advice

 It's a disaster!!!!!
Actually, it really is! It's pretty much a parking lot eastbound from mile markers 25-45 from 6 am-9am and the same westbound from 4pm-7pm. Obviously, times may vary due to the outrageous volume of fender benders, overturned tractor trailers and such. Monday mornings and Friday evenings are the worst. Friday nights in the summer (expecially holiday weekends) will make you wish you were dead.

honestly, my husband would disagree. yes, there are days it sucks (accident, weather), but *overall* he gets to work and home (works 40 miles east) in less than an hour. Friday nights in the summer are bad, I'll give you that - it takes him average about 70 minutes.
ETA - he leaves in the am around 6:30 and PM around 4pm, I admit he hits the roads on the early side, so I guess I disagree with your windows of traffic.

I've lost my insanity quite a few times on I-80. Everything that Calico said is right on the spot.

I only did it for one year (Mount Arlington to Fort Lee). It was enough of an impetus, however, to relocate to South Jersey. If you live in Morris or Passaic County, I-80 becomes an inevitable part of your life. And life is too short for that.
As I recall, the hot spots are the Rt 15 merge, the 287 junction, and the Garrett Mountain turn in Paterson during the morning, vis a vis sun glare. The start of 280 is less of an impediment, however, if you are headed up 280 to 80 in the afternoon, that too is a grind.

Thank you for the replies to my question, however can you be more specific?
I will be on I-80 E from PA to exit 34 and getting on to Rt 15
So far the news does not sound very good
For those of you who have been through it, how long is the average delay? And how long are those friday evening delays going westbound into PA?
Thank you, please keep the info coming. I really did not consider living in NJ, but this is making me think twice. Is there ANYWHERE with an easy commute to picatinny??

Dover would be an easy commute, as would be Wharton. When I lived in Mt Arlington, traffic on 80 east was bumper to bumper by 6:30. It was critical that I was on that road by no later than 6:15. It seemed as though every minute later than that equalled another 3 minutes to the overall commute.
