Fireworks in Red Bank
Hi! This is our first 4th of July here and we'd like to go see the fireworks. We haven't seen much of Red Bank so we were thinking of going early and hanging around, eating dinner and then watching the display. Anyone have any tips on public parking or where to actually go to watch? I've taken rte 35 to Little Silver and been near the Count Basie theater, but don't know very much beyond that. Thanks!

Well, there are two riverfront parks to choose from. You can go early and try to put a blanket down and wait for them to start. I haven't been to the display in RB in a few years so I can't suggest a good time for you to arrive. Sorry! Oh, and you do know it's on July 3rd, right?
If you're not familiar with RB, the parks are both right at Front St. One beside the hospital, and the other just a few blocks down. There are quite a few parking lots downtown so you can try to find a spot nice and early. Good luck! I'm sure someone who has been there more recently can give you better info on what time it starts to get crowded. I go to RB every weekend but tend to stay away on those crazy days!

I would take the train in from a close stop. The last time I went (2006), the train ride was free. I payed for a ticket, but no one ever asked for tickets.

There are parking lots a few blocks off the water, along Water Street or Monmouth Street, I believe. Plan on getting there in the morning if you want to find a spot, though. One place you can consider watching the show from is the new plaza at Hovnanian's HQ at the base of Maple Street. It's technically private property (other than the boat dock at the end), but I can't imagine that it won't be overrun with people for the fireworks display.

I don't know if you're interested but you can also go on a boat and see them which is what I use to do. There are several boats that go out and serve sandwiches and you can bring a cooler with drinks if you like, this is what I would do. If you do some searches on the internet you can find them.
Another fun thing is Long Branch for 4th of July. I did it a few times....go early hang on the beach and they have vendors, arts & crafts along the boardwalk all day. Then at night the fireworks, if you can handle a long day like that.
