This is surprising coming from you, ff. You hate NJ for its high taxes, yet are willing to pay what we have been paying these guys.

I'm just full of surprises !!! Actually, if you check back through my posts in this thread I am for getting rid of all the small town police forces and going with state police......however....that being said I think police deserve a higher pay scale than someone in the "private sector" for an equal period of time as their job is truly dangerous. You couldn't pay me enough to get shot at.....doesn't matter if its in New Jersey or not.

well, i bet security guards and bouncers get shot at more than cops do. hell, minimum wage employees in convenience stores probably have a better chance of having a gun pulled on them than a cop, and they dont even get to be armed.
the question is silly. the ultimate question is, would someone take the job for less money. im betting they would.

As for it being exceptional compared to state numbers, I just hoped so. Are you telling me this sort of compensation is fairly prevalent throughout the state?

i'm not inferring or telling you anything. you made a claim that cops in tenafly made 100K after 8 years...well, i pulled up the data that disproved it. you then went on to say other towns were compensated better for the same number of years, and i pulled up a few towns to show you. nothing more, nothing less.
the facts don't bear out the hysterical claims.

But you can say that about pretty much any job.
And the execs from all the banking and investment (and oil, and construction, and import/export, and automotive, and hospital administration, etc.)companies dwarf even the highest paid member of any police force. But we see how their corruption, lack of ethics and their poor people and management skills has played out on the front page and the financial pages for years.

I'm sure theres a few homeless people living under the highway overpass and a few high school dropouts working at McDonalds that might be interested and probably a few of those mall cops and security guards too.....is that who you want patrolling your roads and protecting you ???
Why not have a few desperate unemployed fathers of large families fight it out for the privlidge of working for the minimum or vastly reduced wages you seem to think their lives are worth ?
