There is no formula... depends on the town. I am just saying that these towns with virtually no crime, do not need to have as many police as they do.

Ramsey NJ has virtually no crime, and 14,351 residents, yet they have 31 cops. Is that really necessary??? Its a tiny town, like 3 square miles.

I think about 65k a year with benefits for an experienced officer is fair in north Jersey. (plus the police get LOADS of OT)

How many are needed then? What if the town is larger with the same number of residents? What if crime rises - what's the threshold for additional police?

We definitely don't need the police giving you seatbelt tickets. That's just a waste of resources.

cops are worthless. people are brainwashed to believe cops protect them. cops dont come until after the trouble is over and they just write a report. usually they are so pissed that they had to cut their 2 hour coffee break short that they write a crappy report anyway.

It is unique for every town... why dont you give some input on your own here...

But for Ramsey, 15-18 officers would be more then enough.

sweetpotato is on a distinguished road
i don't mind if police get paid a lot, but i really don't think as many are needed. you want them there and ready should the situation arise, but for the most part they're spending their time doling out unnecessary traffic tickets. i'm getting annoyed because they seem to be doing that a LOT these days. a friend got a ticket recently for "running" a stop sign - the officer admitted she came to a full stop, but her 2 front wheels were in front of the solid line. she paid $400 to remove points off her license for this. ridiculous.

Hmmm are you a cop? Do you have the "me too" clause? The only things they take away are a holiday here and there and maybe change the health insurance. Your probably right its been a few years since I was up on the o/s contractor jobs.

I love seeing police everywhere, it's a huge part of why I moved here. If you had to live without them you might see their value more. I would rather be tripping over them than have to deal with no one responding to 911 calls like where I used to live.
