I like having my physical library and I like that I can walk to it. So again - I'm happy with the services I'm getting for the money I'm paying. I was not before and that's why I moved!

I developed a lot of the skills that make me a valuable member of society in a public library. I could be wrong about this because I am not going to look up the numbers, but I'd bet the costs related to operation of a municipal library are relatively modest compared to the entirety of most towns' budgets.

JohnnyUtah is on a distinguished road
this is New Jersey, most public agencies and their unions aren't there to serve the people, their purpose is to maintain the status quo and ensure that members of the old boy's club and their relatives are able to have steady, lucrative employment for generations to come...you think the average public servant was hired on their merits? get real...and get used to it, its the way of life here in this state

NJ has the second highest amount of police officers per capita.

I have no problems with Citys having a lot of police, but does a middle class town of 15,000 really need 30 police officers? It's ridiculous. cant drive down the street for 5 minutes without seeing a cop.

Found the perfect town for you:

Full-time police employees - 1

methinks someone just got a speeding ticket.

Its not about how much a police officer makes......god knows you can't pay someone enough to get shot at......its about how much it costs to run an entire individual police force......you need enough men for 3 shifts each day.....the cost of the police building, the staff running the building.....switchboard operators..... a police car fleet......special vehicles and special equipment.....continuing training programs......a police car maintenance building and mechanics.......all their medical benifits......all their pensions......insurance polices.....of course the special "Dare" police car.....the bottom line is little towns can't afford this......its far cheaper to consolidate and go the state police.

I didn't know that. Maybe that explains why there's a damn dunkin donuts almost on every corner. There's not ONE town in Jersey that doesn't have a Dunkin Donuts. Now it all makes sense.

Why do you think public budgets are so high? If you don't "justify" things to spend taxpayer dollars on, the budget will be cut next year. The incentives are totally against the taxpayers who are supposed to be receiving a "public benefit" in the first place. We serve them, not vice versa.

i didnt say that they make too much... I said that there are too many police officers. I think $100,000 a year plus benefits before even considering OT is a bit much, but i have no real problem with how much they make. dont put words in my mouth

Sorry....it wasn't directed at you......I only used your post to insert my thoughts as it asked about salary and it seemed a good place to insert why it wasn't just an officers salary.....
