South Plainsfield teachers boycotting graduation ceremonies because some students came to prom drunk
South Plainfield High School teachers will not participate in graduation ceremonies - NJ.com
These teachers are being real jerks and ruining these kids graduations. kids will be kids, is it really the end of the world if a few kids go to prom drunk?
The kids who didnt drink are the real losers in this situation. The teachers should think about them.
Awful job out of these teachers in my opinion

I think that's the wrong way to handle this situation. =.= The students should be the ones held accountable. Not the teachers, boycotting.
And I'm a complete supporter or an alcohol-free school prom!

At least the school principal has learned that the board of education are a bunch of wimps and next time to just call the cops and have those students charges with underage drinking and so on.
Of course who cares about a HS graduation ceremony anyway. You American's are a weird bunch

That is absolutely terrible of those teachers. Whatever. The BOE didn't ban them, big deal. Sounds like they are mad at the BOE for something else and are just using this. Bunch of crybabies. Real nice to ruin all of the other kids' graduations. And yes, graduations are a big milestone here in America.

No, not extreme at all. Too many of those kids will drink and drive.
There was way too much of this going on when my son was in HS a few years back and clearly it is still a problem. The fact remains that it is illegal for these children to drink. Period, end of story. Too many parents look the other way or even encourage it by allowing their kids to drink at home.
The BoE should have called the cops and the kids should have been charged. Clearly the teachers are getting no support and if boycotting the ceremony gets the point across, I am all for it.

If they showed up to prom already drunk, that means they were drinking at pre-prom parties...held at parents' homes. That means that parents were being 'cool' and letting their kids drink because 'if you're gonna drink, I'd rather you do it in the house *wink wink*'. Sad. What a bunch of losers. It's pathetic that parents don't have the balls to be adults and mete out even the most basic levels of discipline. And it's pathetic, but predictable, that the BOE doesn't have the balls to stand up to these negligent parents. Congratulations on setting the new precedent that it's now OK to show up drunk at the prom. Can't wait till 2011 when it will be OK to show up drunk to the SATs.
As for calling the cops to the prom? That's not extreme at all. If I were an adult at that prom, I would have called the po po in a heartbeat if only to cover my own arse. If one of those drunken kids had hurt or killed themselves (or someone else) everyone would be screaming bloody murder that the cops should have been called.

Then the BOE steps in and it over rides the adm. decision. So the teachers in turned decided to not volunteer their time to a BOE thats finds nothing wrong with a bunch of idiots breaking the law.
Pretty much this means you show up drunk to the prom and break the law nothing happens to you. What message does this send to the rest of the school? Talk about lack of repercussions! Wow what a sissy BOE!
