I think the train might be faster? I take the bus because I don't want to have to change trains and deal with the mob for the path train going home. Just personal preference I guess because the other people I work with take the train. We were careful to buy a house within walking distance to the bus. I would have done the same if I were taking the train. The Academy buses going to and from Wall Street are crowded but there are a lot more buses going to Port Authority so you don't have trouble getting a seat if you go there.
Thanks for the thoughts. Sounds like you work downtown. I'll be going to midtown so the Port Authority is where I'll be going.
I find it strange that there is such a stark difference in price between bus and train. It really adds up over the course of a year, especially if you can walk to the bus and not have to pay to park at the train station. Then you can save even more money.
NJ Transit bus within walking distance to house in Aberdeen: $222
Academy bus: $265 (from Hazlet); $300 from PNC Arts Center -new rates effective June 1
NJ Transit train: $309 (Matawan) or $317 (Hazlet) plus $$ for parking (if you can find it). That's pretty expensive especially for someone like me who isn't making much money.
Wow, I thought the train was cheaper. Now I'm happier to take the bus. As long as you can either read or sleep I think the commute is fine. Having to drive to the bus or train would be too much for me to bear though! (It's actually 255 from Hazlet)
