Who will run against Chris Smith?
Does anyone know who will run against Smith in 2010? Republican or Democrat. Smith has got to go.

I thought Smith was really popular in his district. Would he really be challenged by a Republican? And I can't see a Dem winning either but who knows.

It would be an uphill battle but I think there are enough Republicans who have had it with him voting with Dems most of the time on big issues. We might as well have a real Democrat in congress representing us than a RINO. I just want to know who we can get behind to get the ball rolling.

Really? Who's had it with him? Not his district. I thought he was wildly popular in his district, he brings home a lot of money because of his seniority. Even Dems vote for him (which I guess is your point)

I am not surprised Dems vote for him because essentially he is one. Although it does surprise me in one sense. The guy is the most pro life memeber of congress.
We have a strong congressional delegation without him.

"Smith is one of the strongest opponents of abortion in either house of Congress. Smith has worked to stop abortions in military hospitals. He has also worked to reinstate the Ronald Reagan-era restrictions that would deny federal funds to family planning organizations that promote abortions abroad"

Well, locally, he brings home the bacon due to his seniority, so it's logical that he enjoys great support from both sides. He is the most pro-life member of Congress, but I guess local issues can override any objection some people might have there. Plus, there is the incumbency factor anyway.

I don't think his popularity is due to any "bacon" he brings home, it is due to inertia and lack of a credible opponent. He runs in a pretty conservative district and he is to the left of many of his constituents. Combined with the fact that he doesn't live in New Jersey much less his district shows how much he is disconnected from his constituents.
He is also the sponsor of card check which would take away the secret ballot from union members. They guy is far out of the mainstream on many issues including abortion.

If you live in Hoboken what do you care about a congressman that lives in south central NJ. Your man is Albio Sires. I like C. Smith and will vote for him again if he runs. Thats like me telling you to not vote for Sires.

I have two homes. My primary residence is in his district. What position of Smith's are you most impressed by?
