I was thinking of the mountains, but it just didn't work out. So...i was wondering if there was a lovely, clean town which is not innundated with kids. Pretty scenery, good restaurants and nice beach would be lovely.
I know that Wildwood, Sea Isle and Ocean City are out. Avalone and Stone Harbor a bit too stodgy for me. Anything nice in Ocean County? I don't think I want to go any further North than that. i was thinking of right after Labor Day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Beach Haven has a fair amount of businesses that stay open until Chowderfest, which is usually the first weekend in Oct. I go down on weekends through the winter, and while a lot of businesses are seasonal, there are usually a handful of restaurants open Thurs-Sun. In Sept there are a lot of open businesses, and the Surflight Theater has shows scheduled through Sep and OCt. I love the fall at the shore!

Not at all! It's a pretty high-end place in terms of restaurants and such. Yet the people seem a bit warmer than those in Avalon/Stone harbor. At least that's my opinion.

Yes, Harvey Cedars, other than the business district, is pretty quiet and Lovelades is residential.

How do the folks here feel about Point Pleasant Beach these days. I spent a relaxing week there about 10-12 years ago, Sunday - Friday. I like the convenience of the NJT service which was two blocks from my motel on Arnold Ave, which itself was one block from the beach. Nice boardwalk and clean beach. I just wanted to sit on the beach and relax reading a book. Got breakfast at a nice place at the north end and watched the fishing boats head out from Brielle. Then spent the day on the beach with my chair and an umbrella planted by the beach service. You could leave all your stuff there without worry when going to get lunch. In the evening clean up and head for the boardwalk and eat all the prerequisite foods (pizza, fries, soft serve, etc) and spend some time at that club on the beach being entertained by a Frank Sinatra impersonator - he was good! Then back to the motel, the next morning do it all over again. No job, no car, no computer - for five relaxing days I've been think about visiting again.

Point Pleasant has become very family oriented. I have 3 children, so I love it. On the other hand, they also have a couple great bars/restaraunts on the beach. When my husband and I get a babysitter we go there sometimes. I would not say it is a quiet beach though.

If the OP thinks Stone Harbor is too stodgy, Spring Lake would be mind-blowing. That place defines stodgy.

Aside from a few on the boardwalk, I can't really think of any that close. Ocean County is a year-round place, the restaurants (especially the nicest ones) are open 365 days a year.

i think it has plenty of both. which means there is room for nice restaurants and places to stay while also tons of lesser people. kind of like manhattan (in that way). long beach island has less of a mixture.
