QUIET, ADULT Shore Town?
Please forgive me; I know there are many shore town threads, but my needs right now are very particular. I need to get away, and the place i feel best is by the Ocean. My Mother and I have gone to Cape May for 25 years. she is fading now, and i can't seem to go there without her...too sad for me.
I was thinking of the mountains, but it just didn't work out. So...i was wondering if there was a lovely, clean town which is not innundated with kids. Pretty scenery, good restaurants and nice beach would be lovely.
I know that Wildwood, Sea Isle and Ocean City are out. Avalone and Stone Harbor a bit too stodgy for me. Anything nice in Ocean County? I don't think I want to go any further North than that. i was thinking of right after Labor Day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I totally understand what you are saying, Cape May has very special memories for me and some of my family members who have since passed too. One day, I'm sure you'll get peace by going there, but for now, you need to find respite someplace else.
I would recommend Spring Lake, but it is probably North of where you'd like to travel, but it may be worth the trip. I think it fits your bill.

Ditto on Spring Lake. There are a number of B&B's close to the Ocean and Spring Lake is very quiet.

You could rent a hotel room near Island Beach State Park and spend time there. It's in Seaside Park which is near Tom's River. The beach is pretty peaceful there. The town isn't much, though.

Beach Haven on LOng Beach Island has a nice mix of shops, restaurants, and the Surflight Theater. There are also choices of hotel/motels or some nice B&B's or Inns. If you want really quiet, the northern end of the island (Barnegat Light) has less commercial activity or dining.

I'd have to agree with Spring Lake.

Remember, if you're going AFTER Labor Day, you have your choice....most everybody will be gone for the season. Seaside Park (not Heights) is lovely in the off season. You could have your choice of beachfront accomadations.
Good Luck!

Thanks so much, folks. I will consider all of these suggestions.
I reread my post and noticed how prissy I sounded. I guess decades at Cape May has me spoiled for clean and quiet even though their season extends well into the fall. Can i assume that a few restaurants are still open post-season in Ocean County?
