How is anything he posted "BS" ? You've responded to a post that argues that South Orange is a decent place, with criticism of Newark. Talk about a non-sequiter. Salem St is about 1/2 a mile out of South Orange.

A half mile out of South Orange. I can jog that in about 3-4 minutes. Thats pretty close to adjoining South Orange. Oh but I forgot about the invisible barrier that you hit once you hit South Oranges border. It keeps all the undesirables out. And keeps everything bright and shiny in SO.

Half a mile out of South Orange isn't South Orange. If what you were saying were true, the Montrose section (you know, million dollar houses... ) would be "the same" as Orange (if you apply induction to that, it implies that every area is "the same" as every other area, but I digress ... )
The "invisible barrier" is called "the police". If you're at all familiar with even moderately urban areas, you'll also be familiar with the fact that even 1 or 2 blocks can make a huge difference e.g. compare the crime rate on Rutgers Newark campus itself with the crime one block from campus -- you are considerably less safe when you step off campus.

South Orange has the nicer down town area albeit small and it is closer to Maplewood which also has a nice downtown area.
South Orange also has the train stations which West Orange does not.
Both towns border less desirable areas and the taxes are too high in both (although I believe South Orange is still higher) and the schools are not representative of the taxes in either town.
So if I had to choose between the two it would be South Orange but since you threw in the choice of neither that would be my true choice.

West Orange is my pick of the two. Taxes are cheaper than SO. Free jitney takes you to the SO and Orange train stations - SO residents unless they are within walking distance also rely on a jitney to get to the train. Bus lines to NYC. Very close proximity to restaurants, shopping, etc in adjoining towns like SO, Maplewood and Livingston.
Both towns have schools that really need improving though...

I went to the Gaslight in South Orange last week and had a great time. It's a cool place with lots of beers on tap.

Don't get me started on The Gaslight....... just leave it as there are much better places in SO to spend your money where you are treated with respect.

I thought that was for only senior citizens. What are the requirements to ride that mini bus?
