i didnt read whole thread but I believe half of the cops should be fired from most of the towns in NJ. I know these cops has nothing to do whole day except give out traffic ticket for someone touching yellow line or unlock somebodys car. I see 3 flashing cars at minor road work, complete waste of public money. Just give an idea how stupid it gets, construction on small rt 518 in somerset is going on for 1 year now and there is always 2-4 cops siting on the road just diverting traffic. Whereas on national highway 130 I have seen construction guy taking care of routing the cars.
this along with firing half of the teachers will automatically solve most of the property tax problem even granted corrupted politician keep filling up their pockets

The only issue with firing half the police is the fact that they won't be there when you need them. It's one of those things where you have to have a decent standing police force for when something serious occurs, but the rest of the time, the work is more menial like traffic enforcement. One other thing I will tell you is that the number one request police departments receive in suburban towns is to step up traffic enforcement and give out more tickets to speeders. I hate it, you probably hate it, and most of this board hates it, but it's true. It may be 80 year olds who call about that, but they do call, and departments listen.
I always felt that, except for the large cities, we should migrate to a county sheriff system like many states. In that way, police resources can be distributed across many municipalities, and when more police presence is required, the resources can shift. In our area, perhaps we could also get some more marine police presence as well.

You are right. I cant think of any reason I would ever need one. Maybe without them we could all get from point A to B without constantly looking in our mirrors or looking around corners to see where one might be hiding waiting to pounce on us.
The poster above is also correct. Why do we need 4 piggies to work a traffic light on Sunday mornings to handle the church letting out? What is that costing tax payers?

You're right on the money... unfortunately the unions won't allow it... in the end too many officers would lose their jobs... you could very easily apply a similar concept to the schools in NJ and save a fortune on maintenance, busing, and other overhead.
What we need to do is take a long term approach to appease the unions. Do the combination without cutting a single job or salary. Sure, some may get down graded in title but if they keep their pay check they won't gripe too much. To save money you can either offer early retirement as a means of down sizing or simply let people retire out and not replace them. It's a longer term approach but the union should be more concerned about protecting jobs today than protecting people who aren't even in the union yet and in the end it would save the NJ tax payers a great deal of money.

First, PD Means Police Department.
Second, I past my test, Drug Screening, and Backround.
Third, Spoke to an officer at green Street and was told they went with former marines first and if u knew someone already in the force you got help from them for first dibs.
Fourth, Was told they also cut down on hiring because of economy.

it is kind of strange that your username is NewarkPD and you have no affiliation with the Newark PD other than they rejected your application.

I wanted to give you some rep points for that post, but I couldn't. I guess I gave you too many on all the other awesome posts you had. Anyway, that's pretty funny. I'm hoping my four years here at CUNY will not get me rejected by the Newark PD. They're my second choice, my first choice being the Staties. The best departments to work for are any state police departments, so I was told.

The only thing guaranteed in every town in Jersey is Dunkin Donuts. And when you see donuts, you see cops.
