whats the point of 2 Super Walmarts next to each other & less then a mile apart? Walmart is slowly killing the Mom & pop shops in these cities and towns. And its a shame.

Wow - the topic of Wal-mart come up and so far everyone's been nonviolent - I'm proud of you all.

Nexis, to answer your question, there is NO point in it, but it will happen if it's allowed. I live 25 miles West of Atlanta. If you drew a perfect circle on a map that extends 7 miles from my house in all directions, you will find SEVEN Super Wal-marts, and a Sam's Club, with two more Sam's Clubs close to that range. Why? The folks in the area allowed it to happen.

I still have faith that in NJ there are too many people who are anti-Walmart enough for Walmart to be as widespread as they are in other parts of the country, where they spread like weeds.

Uh... Saddle Brook? But you're still wise to have never been in one.

When you factor in the crappy Wal Mart in Saddle Brook thats 3 Wal Marts within 5 miles. I don't understand how that happens? Who's in Charge of giving them permits?

You can count me in as an anti-WalMart person. I refuse to shop in the place.

Agreed, I don't know who is giving these permits out, but it needs to stop ASAP!

That Walmart is closing when the new Super Walmart opens in Garfield down the street. Great news for Saddle Brook. Bad news for Garfield.

I'm opposed to them on general principles and the harm I think they do to communities and the country long term, but I do understand the mass appeal. 2 weeks ago I accompanied my brother, his daughter and her babies on their weekly shopping trip, which is to a Super Walmart; not to do my own shopping but just to hang out with them. I have to admit though, a LOT of things were cheaper than in the supermarkets I shop at. I also assumed they would have a horrendous selection of natural/organic and low fat foods, but they actually surprised me by having a bigger selection than my normal market. It really is like that South Park episode, if anyone saw that. I'm lucky I don't have to worry too much about something being 25 cents more where I shop, but there are so many people that do, that I don't know how to stop the Super Walmarts from proliferating like some kind of fungus.
