St. Peter's Prep or Bergenfield High School
We live here in Bergenfield but we like our son to go to St. Peter's Prep because of it's excellent reputation. The problem is his long commute to Jersey City and we're not really familiar with the area if safe or not. He just graduated from a Catholic School so if he will choose Bergenfield High, we're not sure if he can handle public school. He does not mind going to either of the two. We just want to guide him to make the right decision. Please let us know if you have anything to say about St. Peter's and Bergenfield High. Thank you very much!!!

I can tell you the neighborhood is fine, it is not dangerous. It's reputation is very good. But wouldn't Bergen catholic be closer to you? I know wthat school is very good.

He never registered to any other private school. He was really convinced about Prep. But now he's thinking about his commute to Jersey City. How about Bergenfield High, is it true that their Honors Program is good???

^If he wouldn't mind going to BC, call them up and check if they have a spot. Bergenfield->downtown JC would be pretty bad before he gets a car if the school doesnt provide a bus.
The public transit commute is the 166 bus to HBLR->downtown JC. Hour and a half.

I would take a good look here at the ranking for BHS before making the decision:
http://njmonthly.com/downloads/1527/...hschools08.pdf
Ranked 234 out of 316 schools. Not a great report.

Maybe another Catholic HS? Like Bergen Catholic, etc.

What will you suggest if he has 2 choices only: St. Peter's Prep (long commute/Jersey City area) and Bergenfield High (ranks #234???). Thank you!!!

I would say St. Peters if he can handle the commute. I wouldn't worry about the JC area. But I would call the other HSs that are closer and see if they have any spots.

my brother had a pretty long commute to Prep back in the day and lived to tell about it. i'm not sure how long your son's would be though...I think my brother's was over an hour each way.

Jojo, I don't know anything about St.Peter's but if you say it has a great reputation, why the two extremes in choosing a school? I went to school in Bergenfield and I know there are good Catholic schools in the area. If you were even considering sending him to BHS vs. St.Peter's, why not a Catholic school closer to home? Just curious.
In answer to your question, I'd take the commute!
