VERNON — A northwestern New Jersey man says he was mugged in his driveway by a sandwich-craving bear.
Henry Rouwendal says he was packing his car last Friday when he was hit from behind and knocked to the ground. He says the culprit was a black bear who took his Italian sandwich.
Rouwendal says he kicked the bear in the snout and throat.
He says the bruin made off with the bread, salami and other meats but left behind the lettuce, onions and tomatoes.
Vernon Township police say it's the first time a bear has attacked a person in the rural community in more than 25 years.
The state Environmental Protection Department so far has classified it as an "incident" and not an attack.

That was no Bear... that was our beloved forum member Alex07860(?) LOL : )
I'm waiting for the bears to come thru as my neighbor's keep warning me to keep an eye out. Apparently, my yard is the yard they choose to cross over in order to get some berries in the field behind us. I've been wearing a diaper while working out in the yard just in case one comes thru.... I won't have to worry about soiling my good shorts : ))))

Hey, I was hungry damn it!!! and he didn't want to share, so I had to do a beat down
Funny thing is a few weeks ago, we had a bear running thru our yard/neighborhood w/ the police chasing after it. A few of my neighbors were having BBQ's and people were scrambling.
The most humorous part of this post is that Google Ads interpreted this as some sort of sexual attack and placed an ad for ' local sex offender' under the original post.
That bear and I had something in common: craving a sub sandwich. It seems as though the victim really wanted it too. I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of wanting to keep it that badly.
This type of article can probably spawn a new Bud Light commercial.
