I'm not familiar w/ the Music program. It is not a bad school, but it does come in lower on test scores and reputation than other schools in surrounding towns. That said, it's still a good school.

It went up in the last NJ Monthly high school ratings. I think it jumped up 20 spots or so. Its not a Blue Ribbon School like others in the area.

Thanks, we are concidering a house in Washington township and our son is going to attend 9th grade in Westwood High School. I really hope we are not making a mistake for those so important years ahead. He was attending Glen Rock school which is way better, but we can't afford the prices here for 4 bedroom house.
I will be very happy to hear any more info for the school and the area.

Your son will be fine. Washington Township and Westwood may not quite be Glen Rock on the prestige scale, but they're still fine, upper middle class communities, and while the schools generally rate in the middle of the pack compared to communities of similar socioeconomic standing, they're still well above averge. It's not a huge step down from Glen Rock to Westwood.

I just got back from spending a week in NJ. I heard from one friend who pulled her two sons from St. Joe's and sent them to Westwood, and another who had a boy heavily "recruited" by Catholic school coaches who also decided to stay in Westwood High. I'm sure the economic climate had something to do with it. but neither of them were worried about compromising their kids' education.

You can contact the music department directly at the school. Don't know if they check email during the summer. I think they have a jazz club too.

WWHS has a great music program and there have always been tons of kids in it...I know they usually go on a big trip every year. It is a great school even though it is ranked a notch below others in the area (although Emerson is only ranked one above and Paramus, Mahwah and Waldwick are all ranked lower). Most students go on to college and the biggest problems the kids face are whose party to go to Friday night and stuff like that. Your son will do fine there...I know my siblings and plethora of cousins who have gone or are still there have all done fine.
