I've never heard of that one before, I'll have to look into that. What county is that in?

^ Ridgefield Park is in my county, Bergen. It's in the southern portion of Bergen. I go through it sometimes (just to get to Challenger Rd) but I think it's a decent town (from visiting view point). Leave the real input to those who live there or near there.

Lately I have been more looking into Bayonne, North Bergen, and Harrison. I have found a good amount of 2 or 3 bedroom places in Bayonne, Also I in North Bergen that is 4 bedrooms, and two apartments in Harrison that were 2 bedrooms. I have still been looking into a few places in Jersey City, but most of them that I ask about on here people tell me they are bad areas. I have found a couple of places in the Western Slopes area of the Heights and I heard that is a good area. I just don't really know how all of those areas stack up to each other. From what I heard Bayonne, Harrison, and North Bergen are all similar in safety, North Bergen is the quickest commute to NYC by driving or public transit with Harrison being second because of the PATH, Bayonne is a bit more suburban feeling while North Bergen is really congested and Harrison is in the middle but more toward NB, and Bayonne is primarily a Italian area while people on here have told me NB is primarily Hispanic but on Wikipedia it says it is primarily white and Harrison is a pretty even mix. Are my findings right so far? Can anybody add to it?

Okay, Thanks.

After being a part of this site for a while................ I've come to understand that New Jersey is New Jersey. A particular area is criticized & then refuted all in the span of 5 minutes.
NJ is a mix & match of everything under the sun squeezed into one of the smallest states in the nation.
Add to that; the fact New Jersey is culturally polarized North & South, you have a million opinions about a million diff places from a million diff people who have a million diff experiences.
We are a cultural petri dish.

I'd add that the kind of place you can afford in Jersey City is OK for a single commuter, but if you have a family, choose one of those others (Bayonne, Harrison, NB). The crime rate is substantially lower in those other towns.

Thanks again Elflord. If you don't mind me asking I was curious on what city/town you live in? It seems like you have been all around north Jersey. That's what I plan on doing when I get there, exploring and learning about all different towns and all different cultures.

I've noticed especially if a discussion about JC, Elizabeth, Union City or Newark comes up. I have been noticing certain towns that people never say anything bad about and others that nobody says anything good about.

You should also see if there are any affordable rentals in Lyndhurst (across the Passaic River from Nutley) or Rutherford. Both towns are very close to the city, but also retain the more suburban feel that you're not going to find in Jersey City. There are a few major apartment complexes in both towns, but the rents there are insanely high, so you should avoid them. However, I've seen houses for rent in both places that were fairly affordable.

I think both of these towns (and Nutley) would be better choices for a family than Bayonne or Jersey City. I am guessing the schools are better, plus I think it would be a nice place for kids. Lyndhurst has a bunch of parks by the Passaic River, and Nutley has a nice park too. These towns are also safe, as well. I've always heard the Nutley schools are the best of those three towns, but I think all would be pretty good. I'm guessing the Jersey City schools aren't great, but I don't know.

I did hear the schools aren't that great.
