The beach is ok and free. There seems to be several beach bars now but I have never been, but the people I have talked to say they are nice and offer drinking on the beach.

Borgata is the nicest hotel inside. Nice places to eat (even their cafeteria has a fatburger. But many other hotels (CASINOS) are decent. Tropicana has lots of nightlife and places to eat.

It is a nice weekend getaway. Problem though is hotels down there in summer are pricey. Plus you can always drive around and hit up some other local areas like Ocean City (good boardwalk for pizza and general boardwalk stuff)
thanks....i am from atlanta so i am use to shady places and people

I really look forward to visiting and hope to see some celebrities...thanks for the info...I am really excited...can wait to get near the ocean...

you know any reasonable hotels there?

I agree with Natas, twister, and the rest. If you read CaptainNJ's other posts you'll see that he (or she-I mean, I did see a reference to Katy Perry, who doesn't really have much of a following outside of teenage girls) doesn't venture out of his/her lily white paradise of cookie cutter development sprawl and strip malls otherwise known as Marlboro much. Any reasonably intelligent person with some horse sense can navigate around Atlantic City without getting into trouble. If it was nearly bad as CaptainNJ says, people simply wouldn't go there. Have a good time, see a show, play some blackjack, enjoy the free drinks, and see if you can either win and quit while your ahead, or at least lose and get a comped breakfast for the next day.

then theres atlantic city...i have never been there...would we have a good time?
Atlantic City is worth at least seeing once. After that, you can decide for yourself. AC is really mostly about the casinos - gambling, some nightlife and entertainment, dining... It's a little bit about the boardwalk and beach, also, but mostly about the casinos. Labor day will be crowded and expensive.

My advice would be to go somewhere near AC; I'd recommend Ventnor or Margate, which are just below AC. Margate is a great beach town with a beautiful beach and plenty of fun shops, bars, eateries, etc. From there, you can go up to AC whenever you want, it's only a few miles away - you drive up Atlantic Ave. and it takes maybe 10 - 15 minutes, but it's one of my most favorite rides of anyplace. It's straight and flat, and the lights are all synchronized, so you can see them all change in order. The homes along this street are incredibly beautiful and you feel like you're driving down a monopoly game board with the little houses and hotels along street names that are familiar to that game. You drive mostly through the beautiful town of Ventnor and then you cross into Chelsea which is the upscale southern part of A/C, and in a couple minutes you're at the casinos.

Another fun drive is from Margate heading south to Ocean City, which has a great 'family' boardwalk. It is a beautiful, pristine boardwalk rivaling anything Disney could produce, and it's all genuine and real, unlike Disney. I love the one bridge you drive over to get there, it's low to the water and feels like you're driving your car on the ocean's surface. Ocean City is only 10 minutes from Margate in the other direction.

Or, do the opposite if you want - stay in AC and then drive down to Margate or wherever else whenever you want.

Or, you may just love AC on its own and stay up there. Be sure to have a sandwich at the famous White House Sub shop.

I say definitely do AC - it will be expensive but so will anywhere else on a holiday weekend.

Agreed on this one. I enjoy their food but be prepared to wait in line.

If you want to save some money stay nearby. Not sure off hand which towns would offer a cheaper option though. Sorry. More inland would surely help. Maybe look for a B&B in a nearby town that should probably save you $50+ a night easy.

If were to be offered one last meal before the warden flipped the switch, I'd have them go over to 2301 Arctic Ave, and bring me back what they serve there. Then I could die very happy.

I normally like to play blackjack, but when I am in AC, this is the place I go to first. It was often the only place I went to.

katy perry sings my favorite song, "i kissed a girl." i want to hear that song at least once everytime i sit down in my car.

donnie and donna will be better off listening to me than you guys.

to me, its not just about being "safe." i want more than just a place that i wont get stabbed and left for dead. the pier is nice, the outlets arent.

i do venture outside of my lily white paradise, but when i do i go to other lily white paradises. i dont go on vacations to places that are crappy and/or that people debate the safety. if there is an issue, i dont go. i am not the only one who thinks like me, the borgata is packed on the weekend and rooms go for $500+ for saturday night.

Doc's Oyster House-hands down. Get the shellfish tower as an appetizer. 1/2 a lobster on the bottom with mussels, oysters, clams, and crabmeat on top. Mmmmm...

FYI, Tropicana is HORRIBLE, in my opinion. I had one of my worst hotel experiences ever there.
