My relatives have stayed at La Semana before as well. I agree with you, it's a fine hotel.

to me, its not just about being "safe." i want more than just a place that i wont get stabbed and left for dead. the pier is nice, the outlets arent.

i do venture outside of my lily white paradise, but when i do i go to other lily white paradises. i dont go on vacations to places that are crappy and/or that people debate the safety. if there is an issue, i dont go. i am not the only one who thinks like me, the borgata is packed on the weekend and rooms go for $500+ for saturday night.
So, in other words, you have no sense of adventure? And what places are there where safety is never an issue? Compared to my town, your town is low-rent and unsafe, and not lily-white; it's more like "wannabe lily-white"...or "off-white with strong olive tint"...

there is nothing to be scared of. the parts ot AC that you need to avoid are so obvious to see. you can't just stumble upon the AC hoods. they scream at you. the boardwalk is fun, the shopping and eats are good. definitely a good escape. nightlife is fun, check out the 24 hr irish pub. awesome. and the traditional "noodle soup" in the casinos are just friggin great. i will say that the section of the boardwalk between the tropicana and hilton gets kind of shady late night. easy to avoid though. the hilton sucks anyway.

But how far off the boardwalk can one wander before they encounter some rough 'hoods?

once you get past the busy hotel spots the only thing left to do is bend over, put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.

It's a little bit about the boardwalk and beach, also, but mostly about the casinos. Labor day will be crowded and expensive.

My advice would be to go somewhere near AC; I'd recommend Ventnor or Margate, which are just below AC. Margate is a great beach town with a beautiful beach and plenty of fun shops, bars, eateries, etc. From there, you can go up to AC whenever you want, it's only a few miles away - you drive up Atlantic Ave. and it takes maybe 10 - 15 minutes, but it's one of my most favorite rides of anyplace. It's straight and flat, and the lights are all synchronized, so you can see them all change in order. The homes along this street are incredibly beautiful and you feel like you're driving down a monopoly game board with the little houses and hotels along street names that are familiar to that game. You drive mostly through the beautiful town of Ventnor and then you cross into Chelsea which is the upscale southern part of A/C, and in a couple minutes you're at the casinos.

Another fun drive is from Margate heading south to Ocean City, which has a great 'family' boardwalk. It is a beautiful, pristine boardwalk rivaling anything Disney could produce, and it's all genuine and real, unlike Disney. I love the one bridge you drive over to get there, it's low to the water and feels like you're driving your car on the ocean's surface. Ocean City is only 10 minutes from Margate in the other direction.

Or, do the opposite if you want - stay in AC and then drive down to Margate or wherever else whenever you want.

Or, you may just love AC on its own and stay up there. Be sure to have a sandwich at the famous White House Sub shop.

I say definitely do AC - it will be expensive but so will anywhere else on a holiday weekend.
I agree with a lot of this.

AC is definitely worth seeing, but I don't think I would plan on going during a holiday weekend if price is a concern. If at all possible, go during the week. You can get rooms at a lot of the casinos for less than $100 during the week, but on the weekend they can be $300+.

The boardwalk isn't that bad, there are some undesirables there, but if you don't have a whole lot of time it should be able to fill the boardwalk quota. I would also recommend Ventnor for a nearby beach, it's nicer than the AC beach but just a couple minutes down the road from the casinos. If you have more time, I'd probably suggest Ocean City (maybe about 15-20 minutes from AC?), which also has both a nice boardwalk and beach.

OK, so you're into overweight blonds, why didn't you just say so from the start? What does that have to do with Katy Perry? She's neither blond nor overweight.

What's a "homeslice"? Is that anything like a grandma slice? Are you into grannies kissing each other? You have odd fetishes, and it's weirder that you boast about them on the NJ forum.

You said you never go anywhere that safety is a question or discussed negatively. Well, Vegas has more than its fair share of crime, and it happens in some of the highest-end casinos, also. So I guess you were just blowing smoke when you said that earlier. I guess I shouldn't be surprised; you seem to just say a lot of things with nothing behind the words.

I still don't know why you ever thought I insulted your town to begin with.
