Why do you avoid the boardwalk...is it dangerous?

What things are there to do besides gambling?

No reason to avoid the boardwalk. It is not dangerous at all. AC is pretty much gambling-intensive, and that's all I do there, but it is still a very nice place if you like the water and the beach.

atlantic city is a really crappy city. the boardwalk has a lot of the local population and really crappy stores. if you stay in the hotel area it isnt particularly dangerous, just gross. you dont want to wander away in AC because it is a very dangerous city for a lost tourist.

the borgata is separate from the boardwalk hotel area. it has a more high end crowd. its very busy on the weekends and you get a lot of people there for the clubs there. what i do is simple. i get up and will go to the buffet for breakfast. i spend the day sitting out by the pool. i get a snack over at the titanium lounge (for the big time gambling addicts) then i get ready for dinner. i eat at the old homestead or seablue. then we hang around in a bar area and go to bed. they have shows also which we will see sometimes. usually comedians of some sort or a bigger performer in the event center. ive seen chris rock, carlos mencia, artie lang, gwen stefani and louis black there. katy perry will be there july 30th, wish i could make it.

When was the last time you were on the boardwalk? The 1980s? Aren't you the same person who ripped Newark even though you haven't been there in years?

AC is a lot of fun. There's a lot to do on the boardwalk. Lots of neat stores, great resteraunts and bars and lots of casinos. There will be an occasional begger on the boardwalk asking to support their gambling addiction. But every now and then you'll see a celebrity too. And if you want to relax, the beach is pretty nice, they don't hastle you if you drink in public either. AC is a great place to visit, but it's like most fairly big cities in Jersey: just avoid certain parts of town.

i have been there at least once each summer for the past 5 years. usually to go to that pier mall. once we were there because we went some a bar and club in those hotels. the quality of people there is disgusting. that area is why a lot of people say that they are going to the borgata for the weekend, not to atlantic city. the stores on the boardwalk are total trash except for the pier mall and inside hotels.

Agreed. AC is decent. Yes it has some shady parts and some shady people. The boardwalk is nothing special but does have the new Cesaers Pier which is a nice high end shopping experience. The outlets in front of Cesears are nice and offer a wide variety of shopping and are safe.
The beach is ok and free. There seems to be several beach bars now but I have never been, but the people I have talked to say they are nice and offer drinking on the beach.

Borgata is the nicest hotel inside. Nice places to eat (even their cafeteria has a fatburger. ) But many other hotels (CASINOS) are decent. Tropicana has lots of nightlife and places to eat.

It is a nice weekend getaway. Problem though is hotels down there in summer are pricey. Plus you can always drive around and hit up some other local areas like Ocean City (good boardwalk for pizza and general boardwalk stuff)
