Does anyone commute from Lopatcong/Warren County?
My husband and I are considering moving out to Lopatcong. We work in Hoboken/JC so we'd cut some of the commuting time off from the NYC drive. We can work 7-4 which should help with some of the traffic. Clearly, we'd be driving each day.
What's this like? I realize it's long, and I'm OK with it as long as I'm not going past the 90 minute mark.
We're also looking in Vernon...

Don't go to Vernon, too long. Stay near 78. If you leave early 78 should not be a problem until you get near Newark. I'll say an hour in the morning if you leave around 6, and an hour + 15 on the way home. You'll run into nightmares though so be prepared. Outside of rain there is sun glare and ice in that area. Go and actually do the commute during the week before moving out there.

I'm in neighboring Stewartsville and typically work from home but I do have to drive east on 78 in the AM from time to time. It's a great drive as long as there are no accidents. I made it to Millburn yesterday in about 45 mins. - left here at 7:15. If you're leaving at or before 6:00 am...the drive will be a breeze!
I also agree with moorsetown... Vernon will be a nightmare ride!

You might be approaching (or exceeding) 90 minutes at times- especially in the summer and when the weather is crappy. If it snows, you can bet on a 3+ hour commute.

Vernon would be horrible. Rt 23 just isn't up to the task of facilitating mass auto transportation from Sussex County into the metropolitan NY area. I couldn't do that commute. I'd rather have the extra time with my family, and live in a fixer upper in a place like Clifton or Garfield.

It's really not horrible T. Compared to Rt 80... 78 is a dream! You can get so much more for your money out here vs. places east... made it to downtown Newark last week in just under 1 hr. If the OP lived in say Parsippany... although closer mileage wise, it would take them longer on Rt 80 to get to Hoboken or JC vs. driving from Lopatcong. Rt 78 just seems like it takes forever as all you can see is mountains, trees, etc. - not as many off ramps/exits. If I was the OP... I would spend a sunday night in the areas they like and head out on a Monday am as if they were travelling to work so that they could judge for themselves.

I would rather live around 78 in Clinton or Hunterdon County that would cut the commute down 20-30 minutes. Most people do not need a huge mcmansion, there is plenty of affordable housing in that area. Hunterdon county is pretty affordable, some towns have high taxes, but no need to go to Warren IMO.
