Default NJ Driving License

Hi All,

Can any one suggest me whether my India (bombay- Maharashtra state) license is valid for getting the New Jersey license without the ROAD TEST.

I'm basically from Bombay and I have my Indian Driving license and 4-5 years driving experinace in India .

I know that I have to write my online exam, is there anu DMV will allow without Road Test ??

I heard that for road test i have to wait more than 60 days in NJ. Can anyone please suggest me on the same.Waiting for your reply

Warm Regards

Check out their site Motor Vehicle Commission

I think NJ requires road test for even some out of US states drivers so I would say you definitely need to pass a road test being from a foreign country.

I was told that if you take a drivers school course that is accredited by the state you do not have to take a road test. Do not know if this is true.

[SIZE=2]I strongly believe this is not true, I heard in some DMV if you have foreign country driving license then after successfully
completing the online test they may consider your Foreign country driving license then they will not ask for ROAD TEST

State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission

This is why I originally posted a link. Notice on the bottom it says a road test MAY BE required. So I don't know either way.

Hi
I need some information too regarding this..
Actually I have a valid Indian license from Gujarat,India but when I reach @ DMV,NJ I forgot to mention them that I had one and I gave written test and cleared it.and I also took an appointment for road test which is after 3 months from today and then when I came home 1 of my friend told me that Indain license is valid in NJ.

So now what should I do?should I go back and ask them about this or I should prepare for the road test.
Please guide me thorught this...
Thanks,

On just about every form, it asks if you hold a valid out of state license; if you hold one you should include it.

I'm pretty sure they take it. Then if you go back to India you have to turn your NJ license in.

I would copy the old one before turning it in.

I am pretty sure that they will not take your Indian license. I also have a Swedish license and still have it even though I also have an Illinois license (which I will have to give up when getting my NJ license - but there's a difference between out of state licenses and foreign licenses).
