It's called loitering...and it's illegal. Furthermore, many parks have signs saying "park closes at dusk." It's illegal, so if you disobey...why shouldn't you face consequences?
If my daughter was hanging out in a park talking with her friends at 10 PM, that would not be a big deal to me...

I occasionally walk my dog in a park after dinner in the winter when it gets dark real early. Is there some kind of problem with that?

"it's illegal" is not a good argument. I actually have a brain and can think for myself. Dont need people to ticket me and take our money when we are not doing anything wrong!

I would have thought that the police would just tell em to get out of the park. Seems excessive to give a ticket if its just some kids hanging out
The times ive been in the park late at night (Warinanco) no it was not safe. Between the druggies/dealers and the homeless I would not recommend that a female be outside of her vehicle at night. I used to hear horror stories from my uncle (cop) of the things that went on in Union County Parks at night. Im sure some of them were embellished to try to scare me from going but they were still true.

Has anyone heard of this before? The ticket is vague with the exception that she MUST appear in court or risk a bench warrant.
Will there be a fine? Is this how all of these counties trying to make money by clogging up the courts with these types of cases?
I think 10PM till dawn are the working hours for the pimps, ho's and the drug dealers. The police make a lot of money shaking down these people and if a bunch of teens are hanging out in the park it cuts into the real money the these fine protectors of the law can make. They are only protecting their turf. You probably ought to go to court and pay the fine and tell your teens to stay the heck out of the park during "working hours"

Cities have to make money somehow. It's unrealistic to think most of your city's money comes from large crimes (I mean the judges and court house bailiffs need to get paid too). Petty and ridiculous? Yes, but it's still the law

And it's unrealistic to think taxes are going to pay for every public institution of a city and pay salaries for police, judges, etc.

Is she under 18? If so, I think you HAVE to go with her.

She's 18 and this is a lesson learned for her, lesson is...Mommy will not bail you out for something stupid....Mommy will not bail you out when you follow behind your friends. We live in bloomfield, she has NEVER been in a park after dusk.

In a way, i hope the judge gives her a good talking too and a fine. She has a summer job, a nice financial lesson learned.

They were leaving according to my daughter. According to the ticket, he wrote it up around 10:08.

And if they eliminated fines and tickets, and raised taxes to replace the revenue those fines and tickets generate, you'd probably be the first one in line pissing and moaning that they raised taxes......

I guess building permits should be free? Sewer connections? Planning board applications? Business licenses? These all contribute to the cost of operating a city, and actually help to reduce taxes. I know that's hard to fathom when you're getting bent over with the taxes in NJ, but it's reality.
