To the father, just relax dude. It's just a ticket. You should be glad she learned the lesson "nice way". Without tickets, this world will be a mess buddy.
my daughter and a few of her friends were sitting in the park in Linden about 5 minutes after 10. As they were walking out, a police officer stopped them and of course said they should not be in the park after closing. The amazing thing is, he wrote them all a ticket. Has anyone heard of this before? The ticket is vague with the exception that she MUST appear in court or risk a bench warrant.
Will there be a fine? Is this how all of these counties trying to make money by clogging up the courts with these types of cases?
I should imagine this ticket will leave an impression.
I as a parent would be MORE concerned about what someone who saw a group of young, pretty teenage girls out alone at night was thinking of doing to them.
The times ive been in the park late at night (Warinanco) no it was not safe. Between the druggies/dealers and the homeless I would not recommend that a female be outside of her vehicle at night. I used to hear horror stories from my uncle (cop) of the things that went on in Union County Parks at night. Im sure some of them were embellished to try to scare me from going but they were still true.
or even be inside her vehicle at night, unless she wants to get raped in it.
It's funny I see this topic because I was just at the South Amboy waterfront walking (10pm) I came back to my car to leave and there was a cop waiting just about to ticket me, he asked if I'm in highschool, where I live, etc. lol. I mistakenly didn't read the 'no parking from dusk tunil dawn', but he let it slide, probably because I live right by the police station and might drag his name through the dirt. He thought I was "one of them naughty kids" and even felt my pockets, all for parking illegaly, lol.
What park in Linden was this? I used to live in Linden and would always be in the parks at different hours when I was a kid...never doing anything wrong. I do agree with one of the other posters though that we don't know all the story. if she wasn't doing anything wrong and the cop was just being a douchebag then i have a problem with that. Cops should not be FEARED. key word there.
Feared...this is what I mean. Something very similar happened to me. My girlfriend and I got McDonalds Mcflurries one night and decided to eat them on the bleachers at the park. A cop saw us, came over, asked a few questions, looked at ID etc but then said the park is closed and to go home...nothing more. that was it. That's what a cop should do if people weren't doing anything wrong. if this cop was going to write a ticket no matter who was there then i have a problem with that.
My daughter went to court last week with her father. The officer was there, he asked the officer if they were doing anything inappropriate in the park, "he said no, just being there after 10 was enough". All of the kids plead not guilty (there were 8 of them).
The reason for the plea, is because they opted to speak with the prosecutor first....reason, the Judge said if plea guilty they would face $250-$1000 fine or 90 days in jail. I will attend the next court hearing. It doesn't make sense to hire a lawyer for $500 if we could just pay the fine for the same or lesser amount. I'm still in disbelief.

Actually I'm MORE concerned with my daughter not using common sense by NOT going into the park after dark, even if she was with both males and females.
Today was my daughters day in court. I let her handle everything herself. She had to take the train from Rider Univ, to Liden court and speak with the Prosecutor on her own. All in all, this was an experience she will NEVER forget. She was given a fine and a good lecture from the judge. Definately a Lesson Learned. Although to some may seem minor, but it was wreckless and stupid, but I have to say that i'm proud of her for taking responsibility standing in front of a judge, speaking with the Prosecutor and handling this matter on her own.
She's 18 and this is a lesson learned for her, lesson is...Mommy will not bail you out for something stupid....Mommy will not bail you out when you follow behind your friends. We live in bloomfield, she has NEVER been in a park after dusk.
In a way, i hope the judge gives her a good talking too and a fine. She has a summer job, a nice financial lesson learned.
I didn't know hanging out in a park is "doing something stupid." Your daughter could be drunk, high, shoplifting, joining a gang... and THIS is stupid? The stupid thing is that the city tax collectors came with a bill in the form of a ticket. Maybe I've spent too much time living in a town where crime is non-existent, but plenty of people go to the parks and down by the water here late at night and I've never heard of any trouble going on. For the record, I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket around here for something like that either.
