Smile Rahway, Nutley, Clifton, Lyndhurst, Bloomfield: Which town will suit me?

Hi everybody, I am Asian graduate student who will go to study in the US this fall.

Now I got a difficulty to find an apartment where suit me. I will live with my girlfriend. So let me tell you about our situation:-

- I will study at Baruch College in NY and have a class on MON-THU during 6-9 pm
- I have budget for housing about 800-900 / month
- I prefer to walking or cycling distance to train station which I could commute to NYC within 1 hour
- I may buy a car in next 6 months
- We have no children and pets

After I check train line and read a lot of posted here. So I look in area Rahway, Nutley, Clifton, Lyndhurst, Bloomfield.

However I couldn't make final decision in my mind about where should we go to looking for the rent.

We try to find nice, clean and safe area which match which our condition above. So is it possible for us?
Could any one suggest us would be really appreciate.

Thanks in advance

Joe

Clifton has some nice sections, just not sure where in particular. You can catch a bus into NYC from various places in Clifton, including Rt. 3 E. Nutley is a very safe town with buses available to the city. The only section of Bloomfield I would consider would be the Brookdale section i.e. North side of town. You might check local papers in the area for apartment rentals. You can look on this website for local papers:HomeTownNews - New Jersey

You might also consider Parsippany. There are also buses that run from various Park and Ride Lots.

Lyndhurst.

It's fairly cheap and it's the best town if you are commuting to that college.

I grew up in Clifton, and it's certainly changed a lot since then, but it's still a decent commuter town. Of the towns you listed, I'd go with Nutley. It seems to be holding steady as a great all-around town, despite pressure from all sides.

Nutley, but I live there so I am biased. Scratch Rahway off your list.

While I'm partial to Nutley, they don't have that many apartments in the town.

Clifton and Lyndhurst and I would even add Rutherford to your list since the buses run a lot more frequently out of Rutherford and there is also a train there. I would also look at Weehawken and West New York along Blvd East....the buses run really frequently there and its a short commute into the Port Authority.
