I'm moving from North Cali (San Jose) to NJ. I need help to figure out the best town to stay. I'm going to work in Manhattan, NY (Near Wall St) and my wife is going to work in Harrison, NJ. I'm planning to take public transport (1 hour max) and my wife will drive (30 mins drive max). I'm planning to rent for the near future (6mos to a year). So based on these considerations what would be the best town to live? I dont want to be in a very congested area and safety is paramount. I'll be willing to spend around $1500-$1700 for a 2 BR rental.
Some suggested to look at Edison. Can you guys give me some suggestions and apartment complexes name in case you know offhand??
These are the apartments I shortlisted, any body has any bad experiences with any of these or any other suggestions, please let me know. thanks in advance..

Best commute to Wall St from NJ is definitely the Seastreak ferry out of Atlantic Highlands. Roughly a 35 minute ride in the morning. It is expensive though at $600/mo. As for your wife she would be looking at a 40-60 minute commute depending on the traffic situation.
A slight correction, my wife would be working out of Edison, si I thot of taking NJ Transit to Manhatten while she can drive. I decided on 3 places to rent,
Royal Oaks in Monmouth Jn
Renaissance Manor in North Brusnwick
Hidden Lakes in North Brisnwick
Are these places ok to rent? Does anybody here has postive/negative experiences on the above said properties? I'm planning to sign the lease in a week or so, so any pointers would be great.
A few of the places you mentioned were all part of Middlesex Management. They own a ton of rental properties, but I have yet to see a place that didn't have problems. I know quite a few people that have lived in their apts. and as nice as some looked on the outside; once they lived there they found out that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Unless they've cleaned up their act, I'd stay away from anything that they own or manage.
Thanks guys, I have a cousin who is looking out for me. The bad thing is he lives in NYC, so he does not know a lot about the neighbourhood.
I'll also remove the properties managed by Middlesex Mgmt out of the list and I'll ask him to go to other properties.
Is there any other apartment complex that you can suggest in the area?
TIA
