"Barneghetto" isn't really true - just a local good-natured ribbing phrase. The truth is that Barnegat is an up-and-coming, excellent suburban town. There are a lot of great things happening in town. Yes, there are some (I'll be blunt here) "trashy" developments to avoid, but in general it's a great community for families with great access to the bay and lots of beautiful neighborhoods on the water.

I wouldn't think twice about moving there, personally.

P.S.: Watch out, though. Taxes are on the rise.

Kyrbyboy is on a distinguished road
Gunning River Rd is part of Settlers Landing, which is considered Ghetto by many. I'd try looking at developments off of Barnegat Blvd North, or in Manahawkin or Little Egg Harbor.

Gunning River Rd. specifically Settler Landing area has had a bad rap for years. This area originally built in the late 70's 80's IIRC. Nice homes and neighborhood, ez commute to parkway and NYC or North. Gas crunch and economy took it out little by little, foreclosure, etc. Barnegat has built up considerably since then. Hovnanian has built a nice dvlpmt. along with other homes of higher price. Check out the town demographics, or perhaps find a realtor who can tell you the areas in your price range. Better yet, if you can take a ride through. Good Luck
