Default Input on High Bridge, NJ and Area?

Hello everyone!

My husband and I are both Jersey-born and bred professionals and would really like to stay in state. He commutes to Tribeca for work daily and I work in Essex County. I grew up in the "country" (the southern part of Sussex County) and city life is starting to grate on me and I am yearning for forests, bike paths and mountains. We love the High Bridge/Annandale area. It is convenient to the things we like to do, our families and the commute wouldn't be so bad.

What does the average one or two bedroom rental go for in this area? We are considering possibly renting for a year or two before making the plunge and purchasing a home. Alternately, we may consider a starter home like one in Solitude Village. We are concerned with the close proximity of some homes in the development, or at least the view from Google Earth, but might be willing to trade off for the amenities and limited outdoor upkeep (more hiking, less mowing!). Does anyone live here or have experience with this development? Also, are there prohibitions on small sheds/workshops there?

Thanks for any information you can provide us!
