Trying to Come Home (Newark, Elizabeth: best neighborhoods, affordable apartments, neighborhoods)

After 2 years in NEPA ... its Apparent that I need to come home. I miss NJ miserably. I'm looking to get an Apartment close to transportation so Elizabeth/Newark come directly to mind since i Grew up in Carteret, as well as possibly Perth Amboy if i were in the mood to go further south.

Any Insight on the best neighborhoods to look for in Elizabeth or Newark? Maybe even Bayonne..

and the best places to find affordable apartments and solid roomates? outside of craigslist.

I'll bet. NEPA is one of the most depressing regions in the country, IMO.
