Diane,

Not talking about the churches, I would expect that there. I'm talking out along the roads...big hige crosses and usually some kind of billboard reminding you about eternal damnation...you may be used to it...part of the scenery by now...lol

I'll have to have one of my southern friends snap me some pix of these things

Sometimes tells me the taxes don't quite compare to those of NJ!

Kate, I know what you mean, but I don't think Brentwood, Franklin, or Suburban Nashville would allow that in their building code. I have not seen that in my area, but have in the Country. It's simply not allowed here as Christianty is not the only religion in Nashville.

No, it does not, but its a long drive for a driving vacation. When I lived in NJ my driving Vacations were Lancaster, PA, Pocanos, Wash DC, Boston, and Montreal, Canada. Gatlinburg I consider a good drive from NJ.

I have to tell you a story, but don't consider it a bash, as it was 1 person, not the entire state.

I was coming from our Hotel Parking lot, and saw people getting out from NJ. I went up to my room, and the maid was cleaning it, so went to the Lobby. I went and used the Business Centers Computer to check my business email as my laptop was in my room. I was there no more than 2 min. when the person from the parking lot first comes over to the man next to me, and asks when he will leave the laptop he is using. It was HIS personal laptop. He said nothing. I told her it was just a connection, and the laptop was his. She said to me well I need the computer you are on roght now. I said I only got on 2 min ago, and that When I finished checking my email I would get off. She said I need it right now. I said you have to be kidding, and that I knew she was from NJ. I told her people to not demand down here and ask politely how long would it be. For some reason she did not detect my northern accent, and yes its still there, but I faked it a little.
I just left after that because its just not worth getting sick over a rude person. I can tell you 3 years ago I would have stayed longer to spite the person. Now she thinks some southerner told her off, LOL
I told this to the girl that does my nails this morning, and she got a good laugh. She's from Boston.

I used to comment on this to my friends and family back home. Often, I'd be calling someone back home from one of my trips, and I'd say "Oh, someone with Jersey plates just drove by!!!"

Or, I'd be in a parking lot of a big-box store complex in a state like Ohio or Arizona or Arkansas, and after I get out of the car I'd see one of the cars near me has NJ plates. I've often wondered how many NJ'ans there REALLY are because, like me, many would be in rental cars...

One of the best was when I went to White Sands, NM... I had arrived that day into El Paso, for work, went by the office, worked for 2 hours, and left before 3 so I could enjoy the area a bit. I drove up to White Sands, hardly anyone was there. I parked in one area, walked out across a trail and boardwalk out into the middle of some dunes where they had a small platform with information plaques. I stood there about 15 minutes before I heard people - it was a man and woman with their young teen son and daughter. We started chatting and they asked me something about NM to which I said, "I don't know, I'm not from here, I'm from New Jersey." They lit up and said, "REALLY? WE'RE from NJ TOO! We're driving around the nation for 4 weeks while the kids are off of school!!!" Turns out they were from Bergen County also, lol.

So it's very common...

In Jacksonville, FL, the manager I worked with turned out to be born in the same Weehawken hospital as me on the same DAY!!! We laughed about how we probably were right next to each other in cribs at some point, and that our parents probably crossed paths, and here we are 3 decades later meeting up in JAX! Bizarre!

But yeah, we get around....

Do you mean this boardwalk:

There must be something about that boardwalk and people from the northeast. About a month ago, I ran into someone visiting from Vermont. Just like you, he was a contractor working for a month at WSMR.

And you lie. Antioch is the ghetto that borders Brentwood. Or do you forget that I know that area quite well?

Now go away and play your banjo or whatever you do for fun.
LOL, Antioch in no way borders Brentwood, it borders a section of Nashville, called Woodbine, that borders an area called Bentioch, that borders Brentwood. Study you geography. Southern NJ people are not hicks, but that person surely was and happened to live near 6 flags. When someonr tries to steal from you, you would see how you feel.
I in no way want to come back! I like my life better here.
I'm glad you did not move here beacause the last thing we need is a northerner with an autitude. I have history where I moved. TN is where I graduated from College, so I was here 4 years previously.

Enjoy the ghetto you have around the corner from your lovely gated community where your house is just the same as your neighbors and is 4,000 sq ft but on a .25 acre lot. And make sure you pick up that charming drawl that makes one sound so intelligent and don't forget to build a safe room for when that tornado comes though. But eh, the taxes are cheap.

The NJ plates you see may be rental cars. Every time I rent a car here in RI, it has NJ plates on it - don't know why- there must be some financial advantage or maybe one of the big companies keeps its fleets registered there.
