Thoughts about Trenton?
I was just wondering why everybody thinks Trenton is so crime ridden and full of poor black people. I live in Trenton and yeah, its not the safest place at night just because its a city, but otherwise there are plenty of good people here. I can walk in the poorest place in Trenton and still feel completely safe.
What Trenton needs is business, more business. It's a wonderful oppurtunity for any business but I don't know why people cant see that. For one thing, property here is not expensive compared to the rest of New Jersey and its the capital which means tons of state workers bring in there patronship.
Any thoughts

Zlegge I've been working in Trenton for 7 years and you're right, the city just isn't getting help from the business community but not much from its citizens either. For example a drive down Perry St. is always an adventure. I've seen residents throw trash in the streets and mothers cursing in front of their children like it's second nature. Last week in my parking lot I noticed a used condom...I mean come on now who wants to run across that at 8 in the morning. Opportunities for leases just sit around for months and some for years. I really don't see much going on for the city.
Working in the city and being a black man I would love to see businesses and overall atmosphere change for a struggling city but everyone in the city has to want it, and some of the citizens actions just prove otherwise. If the people act as if they don't want change then businesses will take their goods and services elsewhere.
There needs to be a push to get rid of the vacant buildings, get the kids off the street during the hours they should be doing homework, and more neighborhood watches that can strike fear in to these criminals.

Trenton has a pretty good community at its core. Unfortunately, there has always been a lot of crime in Trenton. Even less fortunate is that it's not only the people in the drug game who are affected by the crime, there are random robberies, shootings and severe beatings that occur there and it's really scary.
I wish the community would come together and work collaboratively to make an effective change. It's not until people begin working together for the common good of the children of Trenton that you will see a change. Until then, a large number of the kids in the city are susceptible to being recruited into gangs with the promise of family, respect, and power. The police, teachers and social workers of Trenton can't do it alone, without the help of the community.
There are lots of good people in Trenton, but many of them are overwhelmed or scared, I think.

I think the city is on the right track. But everybodys right, it needs help from the community. Though I don't think the majority community would ever make such an effort for change. More and more good people need to populate Trenton, business people that can balance things out. I want to see Trenton as a place where people come from the suburbs into Trenton like going into any other city for fun instead of avoiding it.
I think Chris Christie would try to make an effective change to Trenton (not the political trenton - but the city as a whole), unlike Corzine.

I went out to Trenton to eat at IHOP and the place seemed calm and quiet.I really liked the homes but we did drive down some blocks that I would not like to get lost in.I recall reading a article that people from NYC are buying homes in Trenton and the city is slowly rising.I forgot where I read it at but I'm doing my homework and I may buy something out there.I saw some homes over by the new stadium.Does anyone know how that area is or what areas are good to move too? Thanks...

I would stick with anything near downtown Trenton. I live in Mill Hill which is very nice but I also hear a lot of positive stuff about Chambersburg. But yeah, do a lot of research.

Well, the reality is I am safe. The Trenton Police Department does an amazing job at locking up gangsters, druggies, or whomever is breaking the law to keep our streets clean. Maybe if you join a gang, then yes it is dangerous. Otherwise, you are just as safe in Trenton as you are NYC. I hate when people name every city in the world or NJ and say "oh dont go there, it's dangerous" because it's not. That's just ultimately ignorance.

There is no IHOP in Trenton; you must have gone to the one in Ewing, very close to Trenton on Parkway Ave. There is a new townhouse development right across from the stadium. Best "old" areas are Hiltonia, Glen Afton, Mill Hill, the Island and Berkeley Square, in that order.
