Default Washington (warren cty) property taxes raised

Why? Our taxes are "estimated" and were raised by $177.25 per quarter. I did not pay this. I do not have a steady job so I payed the last quarter tax which I know to BE the tax. However, our boro just lost our police b/c they merged with the township cops. Then the boro wanted to get rid of our garbage removal and it would have cost us $318/year. In a depression like this one and the fact that NJ is broke all the way down to Corzine's underwear doesn't add up to an increase???

Also the big town of Washington 07882 NJ has the Boro Industrial development project (BID) and it is a failure. When we moved here three years ago there were stores in which to shop. Now after 21 stores closed due to greedy landlords and they are standing open with no takers, the BID PROJECT is still going forward? Why? It's a dead horse that is being whipped. Enough already.

The kids are not any smarter than they were when the taxes were $177.25 dollars lower last year. 3 years ago we were paying $3000 in taxes a year - how do we go from that to $5000 in 3 years? Especially since all our properties are at a lower value and everyone in the hood is broke and eeking out a living either on part time or unemployment?

Ridiculous. When I called Trenton I spoke to a spanish accented aide to Corzine named LISA who told me absolutely NO ONE IS GETTING THE HOMESTEAD ACT REBATE THIS YEAR UNLESS YOU ARE 65 Y/O OR DISABLED. Yesterday I got the rebate offer in the mail. LISA IS AN IDIOT.

Lisa also told me that I should go and talk to my Boro Manager and let him know that he has to cut back monies including PEOPLE in his office and if he has to fire them - he should. IS THIS WITCH KIDDING ME? I would never tell anyone to cut staff members especially in these hard economic times. I pointed out to LISA that she had a job and that her attitude sucked and that in effect she worked for me. I am her employer. She hung up on right after I fired her. She called me a Puno - I think it means "*****" in Spanish. THAT IS WHERE OUR TAX MONEY IS GOING - to keep in employment a stupid spick who curses people out in her Spanish accent. I'll bet anything she's illegal and used to work for Corzine as a "maid".

Then there was MICHAEL in Corzine's office. I called the office fairly depressed and crying because I felt defeated and got MICHAEL. Mike told me to "STOP CRYING BECAUSE CRYING AIN'T GONNA HELP YOU GET ANYWHERE". Lovely, he's a philosopher besides being a boob aide to a billionaire governor. Mike was black - how do I know? Please! Give me a break. I told Michael "I need help" - he gave me another number to another chamber of NJ government - yeah-he passed the buck. He told me "go get a job". I sniffled, "I'm trying. Don't you think I'm trying but these ******* employers don't give a ****. They don't want to hire me." Michael-"Oh so now they are *******s. Well, with that kind of attitude you are not going to get hired". Is this moron kidding me? This is no way to speak to someone on the ledge of the cliff. He ended by telling me "good luck, Miss. With your attitude you're going to need it". I fired him too but he hung up on me. These people have got to go.

And, don't you wonder how Corzine got his billions? A person who makes a billion dollars in his own lifetime could NEVER have gotten it legally or honestly.

There was talk that property taxes throughout Warren County would be going down due to budget cuts at the County Level....

We'll see : )

I know you are feeling very angry and frustrated, but I'm not surprised that you got the reactions that you got. You can't just call people up like that and start going off on them.

Where did the taxes go up specifically? Did they go up in the school portion of the tax? Then you need to go to talk to your Board of Education. Did the municipal portion go up? Then go to the Town Council. The county portion?

And yes, if it is the municipal portion, you should be directing your energy towards your town council. Town council being the elected officials. NOT the people who work at the municipal building like the tax assessor, boro manager etc. They only work for the town council and hence the town, and only carry out the orders of the elected officials on the council. Calling up them to yell at them is also pointless.

I missed it as well Wiley. Just saw Warren County, and had to chime in about the 5th year in a row that Oxford taxes have gone up.

mine haven't budged yet. If they do, I will appeal as we are paying the highest taxes of anyone else in the village. All others are around 3K... I'm at 6400
