i do not have a security system (unless you count my dogs)

But I always go to friends houses and they have security system. Seems like overbearing paranoia to me. And these things cost a lot of $$$ as well.

I see that there is one in my apartment and I guess the former tenant installed it but I didn't reactivate it.

I voted Yes, only because the house we bought had an alarm system preinstalled. We can activate the audible alarm, but we don't subscribe to the monitoring system. I think it's a waste of money. By the time the alarm activates, notifies the monitoring company, alarm company notifies the police, and the police respond, any burglar is going to be out of your house by then anyway. If anything is going to scare them off it will be the audible alarm, and that we can use for free.

I dont really see what is so weird about it. Cars all have alarms in them, and we are only trying to protect a stereo, or at most, the vehicle. Why would we NOT put an alarm where our children sleep every night?

Agree, why put it on a car then? I think its personal preference not paranoia. In this day and age you have to be so naive to think you're safe in your own home no matter what town you live in.

many companies usually install free sytems if you activate for a year or two. We go a call from brinks willing to install a free system 2 pads blah blah blah for 39 a month monitoring fee for a year.

if you dont have one, then someone can easily break into your home while you are away and take everything you have.

I have one. Rationale is pretty simple.

If I'm home and there is a break-in, I have a panic button on the remote which automatically sends a call via land line to the monitoring center. If the land line is cut, there is a cell back-up with a 5-hour battery. The call will get the cops out ASAP. Although one like this is close by as well.

If I'm away, it's the peace of mind knowing that if there is a break-in, I'm not going to lose all my belongings. And if there is a fire, I'm not relying on neighbors to call it in. The smoke and heat detectors are all linked into the system and can trigger a call if they sense something.

The rebate on my home insurance is also nice to get.

why would you want the cops to show up so fast if you have that sitting close by?
