HELP Relocating and clueless...
Are there any towns with good schools in NJ near East Windsor that are affordable to an average family of 4?!?!?!
My husband is working in E Windsor and we don't want to sink a lot of money into a house until we are sure about an area...does anyone have any information that may be helpful? Rentals?

Here's the million dollar question - what's your definition of affordable? Also, what can you afford vis-a-vis property taxes?

WE'd really like to stay under 300 if that is possible, we would love a handy man special on at least 1/4 acre...we can fix it up and turn it over in a few years..I would like to stay home with our children for a few years. Schools are very important as well...top priority actually.

Good luck with that wish list. Anything on 1/4 acre even remotely close to East Windsor will run far more than $300k- the vacant lot is worth almost that much.
Finding anything for $300k is going to require you to head south from E. Windsor, probably to the tune of 45 minutes or more south. The schools down that way aren't as good as the schools in West Windsor, Princeton, etc., so you're either going to have to spend more money or compromise on the schools.

I love Hightstown. I have been living (renting) here for the past 4 years, and just recently bought a house here last August. There is a nice walkable downtown, with several good resturants & shops, and the school district is very good from what I hear.

Why not rent in Plainsboro while you decide where to live? There are plenty of townhomes/condos you could rent. Hightstown and Lawrenceville are nice enough.
