Default Special education (for Autism) in Union and Morris County

I am relocating from Northern California because of my job. I have a 10 year old non verbal autistic child. During the preliminary search we liked Summit, Madison, New Providence (NP) and Berkeley Heights (BH) because of their access to NYC and EWR. However, we do not have much information on the special education in these cities. We do know about Union Morris Jointure special schools but we are looking for a lot less restrictive environment. My child is not high functioning and I will prefer a public school system.

While searching the forum I read all positive feedback on West Windsor (WW) and East Brunswick (EB). Brick was also referenced a lot for its autism program but it will be a difficult location for me. I also saw some mention of Ridgewood, Basking Ridge and Fair Lawn. I liked Millburn initially but was discouraged when I read about its interest only in high functioning special kids who can be mainstreamed.

I am planning to buy a property in a city with reasonable access to NYC. My highest priority is my son's program though. Let me know if Summit, Madison, NP and BH are the right choices or should I expand our list and include WW and EB or any other cities that I may have missed out but have great programs. Also let me know if what I read about Millburn's program is more of an individual's view than what the reality is.

Currently in California, my child loves to go to school (inclusive with lots of common activities and play buddies) and on occassions when I visited his school I found him to be quite popular among other kids and tecahers. He does not have behavioral issues. Will try my best to transplant him to a similar environment. Will appreciate all the help.

Summit would be your best choice. Its a large school district which offers many services/programs for children on the spectrum.Good Luck

There is a great school for children with autism in Fairfield, NJ which is litterally 10 minutes outside of Morris County. It is called New Beginnings. Here is the website: Gramon Schools - New Beginnings - Fairfield, New Jersey
Best of luck!
