Oh, and what exhdo1 said about the crime and drugs-true. The joke(?) is the more affluent schools just have better drugs.

Default I'll have to disagree

If the scores in the elementary school are low it is because they are rated across the board. Obviously if there is an influx of young non english speaking students your raw scores will flatten however the rebound does show at the high school level so you are correct. If a student wants to learn and is supported he/she will do just fine. You must have read stories about children excelling even in the worse conditions. I go to the borough frequently to eat, shop etc. Never do I feel unsafe or in any kind of jeopardy. How long has it been since you left the borough. Maybe you misunderstand me. First I'm not a bleeding heart liberal or give them anything they want democrat. I am a strong republican. I don't think illegal aliens should be here (that don't just mean Mexicans) and if I had my way they would "ALL" be gone. But thats not real life is it. Unfortunatly these people are pretty much here to stay so we need to learn how to deal with it. Many of todays politicians are afraid to deal with the problem most notably in the borough. They started a movement and then crumbled under pressure. If we stop all the entitlements and put pressure on those who illegally hire these people things would change but nobody wants to be the bad guy. It would take time but things would change. By the way I read a recent article about one of the largest produce growers for the DelMonte corporation. The farmer was questioned about the hiring of illegals his reply was "IF YOUR WILLING TO PAY $3.00 FOR A CAN OF STRING BEANS, I'LL REPLACE ALL MY MIGRANTS WITH DOCUMENTED WORKERS Tomorrow" the truth in the matter is this is what liberals etc want you to believe. What they don't tell you is all about farmers being paid not to grow crops. Don't believe the hype, America will do just fine without illegals. Most importantly I implore all to think....and form educated opinions. Thanks!

I'm certainly not out of touch with the Boro. I left NJ only a month ago. My two daughters were in Pre-school/Enrichment in the Boro. I was living there just a few years ago. I have no problem with diversity. But Freehold is no longer "diverse". 60% of the school children are hispanic. Still not a problem if not for the fact that they are children of illegals and can't speak English. You were lucky that your children went through the school system while the HS was still doing well. You just might be thinking differently if you had younger ones.

Many people visit the Boro to eat. All from the Twp., Manalapan and Marlboro. None of those same people would actually live there. I lived there and can tell you first hand how the quality of life has changed drastically. The local government totally let down the wonderful people who have lived there for generations and have stuck it out through all the tough times.

You said Have you ever walked down Broad St. when there are 50-60 Mexicans hanging around at night? If so, have you actually felt safe? Because if you have, you're much braver than I am!

We do agree on one thing I, too, believe we'd be just fine without cheap labor.

My son is still in the Boro. He is a senior this year and once again I don't see the problem. He is doing fine and has great teachers and friends! By the way the majority of crime in the boro that I think your referring to actually should be considered as crime on crime. Often times it is mexican on mexican or black on black. There haven't been any muggings on people visiting to eat. I ate at Erics weekly until he closed recently and that is in the 6-12 strip on Throckmorton. Once again never felt threatened. I've also eaten in the little Mexican retaurant in the 6-12 with no problems. I don't think it has anything to do with brave. Maybe your fears are misplaced. By the way the reason why those people won't live there is the same as the school reason and that is in their eyes "IT IS BENEATH THEM" to live there. I would have no problem living in one of the beautiful victorian homes in town.

Can you folks explain which parts of the area are considered the township and which parts are boro? Regular maps don't really show it....

Any local map should have the two defined. The Boro is actually surrounded by the Township. Also, because it is a regional school district, East Freehold Twp. (last I checked) sends to Freehold Boro HS. The whole area is very nice-I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
