Moving to Upper Saddle River with twin girls
Hello Everyone,
I am purchasing a home in upper saddle river, nj and like the town and all it has to offer. However, would appreciate some input (schools, town activities, resident participation, etc) from current/former residents of usr.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
Thanks
C

I'm not a resident of USR, but I've been to a couple of plays put on by a local kids' theater group up there. It was very well done and enjoyable. I hope it still exists--you might want to check that out.
I got married at Old Stone Church...has a really cool old cemetery with headstones of early area families, but my choice of entertainment is probably not what you had in mind, lol.

Went to school at Northern Highlands RHS. One of the best in NJ. I think Judy Dayner is still teaching Bio there (one of the best, again).
The school is in Allendale, however, so the bus commute will be a little long.
USR is a BEAUTIFUL town, but one of the most BORING ones available. Almost NO stores or anything to do. (What is the one small convenience store/gas station at the crossroads at the bottom of the hill... ELMERS [thanks to BCJ]..... I forget!).
There is very little to do in that town, you really need to look around to find things.

Elmer's, or Elmer's 'country store'.
USR is a beautiful town, you're right. I live a couple towns over from there and pass through it several times a month and I had a girlfriend when I was college-aged who lived in USR. It is a "boring" town, that's true; their "downtown" is virtually non-existent, but then again, even towns that have a downtown don't offer a whole lot. Like most other towns in northern bergen county it is a "bedroom community", a town where people retreat to for peace and quiet after working all day elsewhere. They are close to Ramsey, Mahwah, Allendale so there is plenty in those towns which they can benefit from. I had a girlfriend when I was college-aged who lived in USR.
The only thing that I've noticed is that grocery shopping requires somewhat of a drive, there seem to be no grocery stores right in the area. I think they have to shoot over to rt 17 or into Ramsey or Allendale to shop for groceries. Then again, that's not a very long drive, I guess I'm comparing their 5 to 10 minute drive to my 2 to 5 minute drive for groceries, so I'm splitting hairs.

There's a supermarket in Montvale on Chestnut Ridge Road. Ya know, where Tice's farm used to be...
