Take the job. You'll be fine. There has not been a murder in Irvington in over 75 years and auto theft is unheard of. The town is so clean you can eat right off the sidewalk on Springfield Ave. Also, the Irvington Police just won the award for the least corrupt force in the country. If you look real close at the pavement on Clinton Ave. you can spot the gold nuggets embedded in the roadway.

Personally, I would not take the job unless it was my only means of survival, but I'm assuming you have better options. Even Newark would be a better option than Irvington. It is as a fact one of the most out of control and violent towns in the country. There are Rite Aid's and CVS's and Walgreens' in many other towns throughout Northern NJ.

I used to swing by Irvington a few times a month for my White Castle fix (as that is the one I kind of grew up with), but after the surrounding area seemed to almost get worse and worse everytime, I permenantly switched to the Clifton branch. Now the only time I'm "in" Irvington is when driving down to South Jersey.

Do yourself a favor and stay away.

And don't forget it gets dark around 4ish in the winter and you'll be getting out at 5. Its sick how some of these thieves know when people get out or will watch you for a few days before they know your habits.

Thank you MGT for the sound advice - I believe I will work the one shift up there in September that they asked me about and then never go back EVER. (Especially if it is even half as bad as everyone says).

That rite-aid is on a major shopping strip with plenty of cops. Do not worry, there will be no drive by during business hours. Don't let the punk-azz "MEN" get you paranoid.

this person uses the phrase "punk-azz" and also seems to be insulting people's manhood for thinking an area isnt safe. seems like a quality person, definitely listen to him.

Let me redo this response. ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS? Where are you people from? First and foremost, this should be a rule. Nobody that doesn't live in or nowhere near Irvington or haven't been around that area should TALK about Irvington. EVER.

And I just saw the store you're talking about. Nothing will happen to you. I thought you were talking about the Rite Aid right on Clinton Ave and Smith Street but you're talking about the one on Springfield Ave right by Foot Locker. Trust me on this one. I haven't heard of anything happening around there to anybody. Don't listen to these knuckleheads trying to scare you. Your car might not be safe if you park it at some places off of Springfield but believe me on this one, nothing will happen to you unless you go looking for trouble.

How do all the other employees of this Rite Aid location manage to survive every day when they go to / and leave work? Truly speaking, do thugs lay in wait for employees to arrive and leave their places of employment?

Regulars in the NYC forum often say that as long as you just mind your own business, you won't have a problem in rougher areas of the city. Doesn't this apply to places like Irvington too?
