Default Help for labor day get away *with dog

We like good simple food (not fancy, but natural.....)
Want to bring the dog so need to find a dog friendly place
Hiking
swimming holes
Cute little downtown is nice but certainly not a requirement especially if good food can be found.

Don't want to drive more than, say 5 hours.

I think what I'm worried most about is driving 5 hours to stay in a disgusting dirty hotel for $200 a night and have nothing to eat but burger king or a greasy diner.

The last 2 years we went to Waitsfield, VT which we LOVE, but I am not doing the bike race I usually do and I think it would be upsetting to be up there around all of the hub bub of the race and not participating.

Have you tried camping anywhere? What about the recreational Pocono resorts?

I second Lake George if you can find a room up there this late. Great hiking, tons of swimming and a great little downtown. And beautiful.

Try The Colony in Kennebunkport, ME. I don't know the cutoff for the size of guest dogs, but they do allow them.
