Default nice place (town) to rent near teaneck, nj

Hi everyone,

Let me first start by saying that I am a single, 28yo female so safety is a big concern for me. However, I have lived in some neighborhoods of questionable character. So I'm somewhat flexible.

Starting September, I will be working in Teaneck and I'm looking for a place that's somewhat close. I don't mind commuting 30 - 40 minutes.

I'm looking for at least a one bedroom (around 700 sq. feet). The more amenities the better. I don't wanna to spend more than $1100 - $1200 for rent and will go a little higher if some utilities are included. I also open to renting a condo if the price is right.

I've looked at places in Woodbridge and Edison that were fairly decent, but I would like to try to move a little closer if possible. I also looked at a place in West Orange and it was not a good look. Oh and someone told me that South Orange has ok living? is that true?

The process of looking for an apartment is really daunting because I'm not that familiar with North Jersey towns so I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. If you can suggest some towns or even apartment complexes that would be nice. I'd also like to live somewhere close to stuff (i.e. mall, food, shopping, train, activities, etc.), but again I'm flexible. Thanks in advance for the help .

No reason to go all the way to Woodbridge or Edison, yikes! : )

Ridgewood is a nice town. Here are some rentals there.

Another town in Bergen County that is nice and has a nice downtown and a good location is Westwood. Here is a nice complex there. Not sure on the pricing though, but I think your budget should be fine.

The Highlands at Westwood

Both towns have a downtown, train to NYC, stuff to do.

Good luck with your move!

Have you considered anywhere a little closer ? Starting with Teaneck itself, and working outwards from there ?

Look in New Milford. Theres a very reasonably priced apartment complex in that town, and you would be maybe 5 minutes from work. cant beat that

For $1200?!? The Highlands would go for almost double that. And except for maybe an old run down studio above one of the stores downtown in Ridgewood, nothing will come close to $1200 there.

What's wrong with Teaneck itself? Should be some apartments available in the $1200 range there (nothing fancy, but possibly an older 1 bedroom garden apartment). I'd also check out Fair Lawn, New Milford, Maywood, and maybe Saddle Brook. Westwood and Ridgewood would be way too expensive.

Thanks for the responses. There's nothing wrong with Teaneck itself. I was just under the impression that I would be priced out of teaneck. But I will give Teaneck a second look. I don't plan to move until October so I still have plenty of time to look. Thank you everyone

Really? $2400 for a one bedroom in the Highlands? That can't be true. I know people that live there and there is no way they would or could pay that. Westwood isn't that fancy or expensive. Ridgewood, moreso.

Be careful with Teaneck. I would try Ridgefield Park or Bogota over Teaneck, but that's just me. Good luck.

The Highlands is $1500 for a one bedroom and 2400 for the their biggest place which is a 2 br 2bath with den. So you're way off with your "twice 1200" for a one bedroom.

To the OP, The Highlands is very nice. Great pool, gym, other amenities. Relatively newly built, compared to most of the apartments around here. Good location. I know a few people who have lived there and really liked it. Close to downtown Westwood, restaurants, other stuff to do.

Good luck.
