New York but I'm from New Jersey Giants/Jets
Curious as to how some of you feel about the recent bill being worked by 3 NY assemblymen that prevents teams that don't play in New York from using 'NEW YORK' in their name. It appears that because it took so long, a lot of residents don't seem to care one way or another.
The teams have all said they will not change their names.
Don't know what this means for the towns of East Rutherford and Harrison but I do know that of the two towns, Harrison more deserves the 'Metrocentre'. The problem is: the Red Bulls(soccer) are the only team in which I care to have the name changed. Harrison needs the Metrocentre but how dare the Red Bull company come along and
-- buy the New York/New Jersey Metrostars
--change the team name to simply 'Red Bull New York'
--and lastly, want to build a stadium next to New Jersey's largest city.
NY would never stand for that. Why should we?

"Why should we stand for it?"
Why should we even care one iota????? I've got far more important things to think about than something as inconsequential as whether a bunch of players have "NY" or "NJ" on their jerseys.

Agreed. This is a silly thread IMHO. Most people will not pay any attention to this silly p.r. ploy so why should we? People will always support the teams they are loyal to and moving across the river will not matter to most.

It greatly annoys me that teams practice and are located in NJ but claim to be NY teams. I think it's insulting to NJ.

It's the same 'I don't care' attitude that lands Jersey in it's current position. I'd be surprised if anyone cared if this state got annexed by NY tomorrow. It's the absence of 'Jersey pride' which gets to me. It's not really about NY or NJ teams, it's about identity. but over here...: we don't care...

Sure NY could annex us and I wouldn't care one bit.. Hell, Mars could annex us and I wouldn't care- as long as it resulted in lower property taxes.
I take "pride" in myself, my family, the job I do, and my home and neighborhood- whether the state was called NJ, NY, Mars, or East Jabib means nothing.
And "lack of Jersey Pride" didn't land us in our current position- lack of morals and/or ethics on the part of our politicians did.

So, you're pretty much saying that you don't care about Jerz. I happen to take pride in myself and family as well, my pride, however tends to go beyond that and it includes our state. And as christina said: it is an insult to our state...I just don't know why that's so hard to see.
ps. it sux to have to envy NYers over pride, because that's one element that they have over us without question
As far as being annexed...damn that.

You know it's very funny how people think that this topic is useless and serves no merit and I wonder why that is hmmmm let me think.......Oh yeah that's right because it's a way of showing New Jersey some loyalty. When it comes to a Jersey topic getting some notoriety oh no nobody wants to give jersey it RESPECT however let some New Yorker create a Forum about the exact same topic start a thread it wouldn't be viewed as being worthless. But it's all good Bottom line is this no offense to all you New Yorkers but you need Jersey way more than we need you and this bill that about to be placed shows you how much your assembly men are Envious of the "Armpit State" put HaHa we are the third riches state so Somebody explain that one to me. Like I said nothing personal just have to call it the way I see it.

The fact that we are posting on this forum (in many cases bothering to respond to totally bogus posts) is evidence of some kind of loyalty. Anyone who is wasting time with envy for another state should really just move to that state. It is really the most idiotic thing and should be outlawed. How anyone could think that this is a legit issue impacting the political/economic climate is beyond me. Just a way to ignore the real issues? I wouldn't waste time paying this any attention. Another divert and switch tactic.

Oh yeah, another thing-the "armpit" is old school. That section is now known as "dirty Jersey".
