Work has already started this summer for a new Towne Square at the former Ford Motor Co site on Route 1.
Edison Towne Square

Phase One of Edison Towne Square will include a 140,000-square-foot Sam’s Club with a gas station on Route 1, the widening of Route 1, permanent 50-foot buffers on Vineyard Road and 35-foot buffers on Route 1, and the installation of a road system and drainage system, including the site’s retention basin.[http://www.edisonnj.org/index.asp?Type=B_PR&SEC={1D8749F3-23E6-4BCC-B418-1827DCC19E28}&DE={8E5C4B4A-E62B-4FF3-96AE-B91ACDA86145}]

WOW, what a great idea!!!!

Another mall.

Just what the area needs. Not enough vacant store fronts already along the RT-1 corridor.

What kind of jobs?

Mostly minimum wage cashier and shelf stockers jobs.

What the area needs is career type jobs that pay more and have long term goals.

Heck, McDonald's is probably hiring right now, why wait.

Years of thinking what to add in Edison Town Square and they come up with Sam's Club?!?!?! F**king idiots. They have BJ right across the street and Cosco on Vineyard Rd thats less than a mile away. Idiots! Within 2 miles, there's Cosco, Sam's Club, & BJ.....F*** what they were thinking? I'll **** bricks if they're planning to add Loew's or dollar store to the strip.

Since they're calling Town Square, I thought they would probably bring something more upscale. Like nicer restaurants, hotels, or fancy commercial buildings. With all that space they're turning into a typical New Jersey strip mall.

Exactly! Why not an IT/Science park or a manufacturing plant so REAL wages can be made. What can people afford for minimum wage?

Hell, all I wanted was a decent deli. When i first heard about what they are doing I wanted to puke as I live basically right behind all this. Traffic is bad enough already. It went from tolerable to effing horrible when they opened the Walmart on 27. We had almost 4 years of construction between the GSP and 287 and its finally starting to get better than ever and this is just going to make it just as bad as it used to be. For anyone familiar, thing Rt 18 on the weekend.

I would have loved to see a nice upscale corporate building. Maybe even a hotel and Movie theatre like they did at Airport plaza.

You want a decent deli in Edison? What's wrong with Harold's?
