We are planning to buy a house in Springfield and even though we like what we have seen so far, we have a few concerns:

1. The High School is rated about 32 according to NJ Monthly, but it has a rating of only 5 in the greatschools.net. Can anyone give me an input about the high school and why they achieve so low rating in greatschools.net

2. The house is located in a flood zone in the woodside area. Can anyone tell me more about these flood incidents and how often they occur? Is this something we should be concerned about?

3. Is there a recreational or community center with activities for kids like ice skating, swimming (lessons), karate, or anything sport related? And is there a membership fee for the public swimming pool? (is it only for residents?)

All responses will be appreciated. Thank you.

I live in Springfield, and love it, not sure why the low rating for the high school, from what I've heard they have good schools, but not as great as your upper tier schools, like Millburn next door.
Great YMCA right in Springfield, no pool, but we have been members of the Connection that is close by in Summit, or you can join Y and the Y in Summit has a pool too that you can use. They have a town pool which we enjoyed this summer. it was $380 for the whole summer for family + caregiver, and yes only for residents. They just redid the playground right by the Y which is nice, and got 2 great playgrounds by Walton the pre-K to 2nd grade school. I enjoy the town and the people have been very friendly. I'm part of the moms club there, so feel free to DM me.. For local news you can check out the springfield patriot online.

Don't know much about the woodside area, as far as flooding, we've been here since 2000.

Good luck!
Sheila

Thank you Sheila! Your reply is much appreciated!

We were originally looking to move to Cranford (until we saw the house we are planning to buy in Springfield) and they have a nice community center alone with pool and gym and I was wondering if Springfield had something similar. The Y sound like a good alternative.

Do you have any kids going through high School?

Thanks again,
Susy
